? for those who have already selected pediatrician..
This is our first baby, so we dont have a pediatrician, I know that I want to use Dr Cavanaugh at the huntington medical group, but what I am not sure about is do you have to call and meet with the dr before you have the baby? I wouldnt want the hospital to call the dr to come to the hospital to check the baby if they dont know who I am or anything.....
Any advice would be appreciated

Hi - I dont think you have to call and meet with the dr beforehand if you dont want to..For us, the pediatrician we are using every 2 weeks will give a little orientation about his practice for new parents so we chose to do that.

Ah, another member of the Cavanaugh cult. Welcome
You can call Dr. Cavanaugh's office. Ask them if he needs you to come in to talk, walk you through office procedures, etc.

I actually stopped into the office after my ob/gyn appt this morning and they made an appt for us to meet with dr cavanagh on the 28th. At least I feel like I accomplished something

I met with him last week. He said he wishes more soon-to-be moms interviewed their pediatricians.
He'll go over the structure of the practice with you, the background/training of all of the doctors, and the facilities they have on site (pharmacy, MRI, x-ray... all located in one building). Then he'll give you a chance to ask any questions you would like.

You dont HAVE to meet with them, but they will if you want. But, you should call them and tell them you are expecting, and your due date, this way they know who are.....

I love the fact that everything is in there, and the pharmacy is amazing! I used to go to cvs, but after going to the pharmacy in there once, I have never gone back to cvs, they are so great with filling prescriptions, I dont think I have ever waited more than 5 minutes for a prescription. The lab on the other hand, depending on what time you go can be a mess!

That was my exact thought, I think it would have felt weird to meet him for the first time at the hospital after the baby is born

All of that is even more important when you have a sick baby. You don't have to get back in the car, drive to CVS, get the baby out of the car, go into the pharmacy, wait, get baby back in the car, drive to the lab, get baby back out of car, go to lab, get baby back in the car... I especially do not want to be doing that with two of them.
Oh, and the office is also staffed 365 days a year Because kids often get their worst illnesses/injuries after regular office hours.
