Anyone give birth around 36 wks??

My belly has started dropping already...I am only 32w, 2 days. I have MAJOR pelvic pain and since the baby is growing so rapidly now my ribs are just popping off like nothing. So my doctor seems to think there is no way I am making it to 40wks. She said "Make it to 36 wks and then we'll talk." Which scared the heck out of me...she said at 36 wks they will take a sono and if the baby is big enough they might want to schedule something because of the ribs being so bad they are afraid of them breaking.

I just want to know what risks/complications come along with having the baby that early...please share your experiences with me if you had your baby 36 weeks or earlier.

TIA!

I had my son at 36.5 weeks. There was absolutely no complications. He came on his own - my water broke. He was born at 6 pounds 14 ounces. the only "problem" was they didn't have my strep b results back yet - only got it done at 36 weeks, so they had to give me the penicilan anyway. If you think you are going to go early, then make sure they do your strep b early.

I am in a similar situation. I know what you are going through. I went to the hospital at 30 wks with contractions for over 5 hours. My dr. told me the same thing. He just needs me to hold on a few more weeks until I reach the 35-36 wk. mark. I am now 33. I am having a lot of cramping, pelvic pain and swelling as well from the baby who was already 4.5 lbs last week when I went for another level II. I am going to the dr. today and wondering if he is going to tell me to stop working. Are you still working?

I only work a few days a month, I do jewelry parties, so I am home most of the time. Well, I guess if the baby is over 5 lbs it should be ok, right? I am just worried about having to put him on a machine and not going home with him.

Re: Anyone give birth around 36 wks??

DD was born at 36 weeks and 3 days..
She was on oxygen for 3 hours and then was on her own and had no complications... she was in the NICU because I was Strep B positive and they didn't have enough time to get enough antibiotics in me- so the docs had to presume sepsis and they have to test more than once for it.

She was born 5 pounds, 13 ounces - a good size..

the only problem we had b/c she was so small was w/ breast feeding-she wasn't strong enought to suck properly.

now she's a little chunker- at 3 1/2 months she's about 14 pounds.

DD was born at 33 weeks. She was a preemie and in the NICU for 2 weeks. Totally unexpected for her to come so early, since I had a pretty easy pregnancy. But, my water broke on it's own and there she was. She was 4lbs 2oz at birth. She's 5 months old now and has been doing great since day 1! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had to have an emergency c-section at 35 weeks. She was 6lb 13oz. She was breathing on her own. She was in NICU for 10 days only because she had a problem after her 1st feeding...which had nothing to do with her being born 5 weeks early.

Re: Anyone give birth around 36 wks??

Little different story but it hould reassure you. Actually I have 2. My nephew was born at 36 weeks after my SIL was diagnosed with placenta previa. They gave her steroids 2 days before they gave her a c-sec. to develop the lungs. He spent no time in the NICU and is perfect and healthy.

My best friend has her twins at 29 weeks. The were small 2 lbs 12 oz and 3 lbs 2 oz. They did stay in the hospital fror about 1.5 months but they are doing GREAT now. The littler one is still apeanut but she is so strong and dextrous.

This is what my dr. mentioned doing if he decided to come early. I think that by 35-36 wks. the baby's are usually ok on their own and generally dont require the NICU for extended periods of time.

36 weeks is considered term & no NICU time unless there are complications.

I had my son at 34.5 weeks. He had to spend almost a week in the Special Care Unit because he was unable to maintain his body temperature & weight. Also they were waiting for blood tests to come back. jaundice is also an issue. In order to get out of the hospital he needed to have at least 2 consecutive days of weight gain.

March of Dimes has a great website if you're interested.

My nephew was born at 32 weeks and was in NICU for about 10 days just to develop his lungs and have him gain weight. My neice was born at 31 weeks and only needed oxygen for an hour. They are healthy kids today!! Don't worry, kids are strong and doctors are smart! Here's a pic: (They are the two on the left)

Re: Anyone give birth around 36 wks??

I gave birth to my son Lucas at 35 and a half weeks. My amniotic fluid levels were very low and after being monitored in the hospital for 7 days, I delivered via a scheduled C-Section. I was also given steroids to develop his lungs a couple of weeks prior and had an amnio the day before his birth to make sure his lungs were developed.

Lucas was born weighing 5 pounds, 13 and a half ounces and was 19 inches long, so he was a pretty good size considering. He spent a couple of days in the NICU just to be monitored and was eventually transferred to the general nursery. He has been thriving ever since and now weighs over 8 pounds (1 month later)!

At 36 weeks, your baby should be fine. Everything should be developed at that point. I know many women that delivered their children around that time and their children are doing great.

I had my boys at exactly 36 weeks by planned c. I had the shots done the week before for their lungs and they came out healthy and big - both over 5 pounds. No NICU time was needed.

Good luck!
