Bottles?

Ok, going to register tonight, so I have questions!!! Chat Icon

What bottles are you all registering for, and how many? I plan on breastfeeding, and then eventually pumping when I return to work Chat Icon

Also, are you getting a sterilizer for the bottles? If so, which?

THANKS! Chat Icon

Re: Bottles?

I the Dr. browns deluxe kit and then one pack of each stage.
I did not get a sterilizer--I am unsure if I will-I might just boil them.
I got two podee bottles--and 2 bottle warmers..

Re: Bottles?

I registered for Dr. Browns but threw in some Avent ones in there as well. I also plan to BF and then pump when I go back to work.

I registered for 2 sterilizers - the Dr. Browns microwave one and the Avent plug in one...because I am not sure. Chat Icon

Re: Bottles?

I registered for 2 different kinds of bottles, Advent and Dr. Browns. I found the Advents worked great for my son so I returned the DR. Browns ones. I have a bottle warmer that has never been used and I only "sterilize" things when they're brand new. After that they are fine to be washed in the dishwasher.

Re: Bottles?

With my daughter I tried every bottle out there...my fav by far, were Dr Browns....Avent always leaked out of the side of her mouth....she had a constant stream down her face. Dr browns are also great for gas!

Re: Bottles?

one of my friends recommended Dr. Browns, another friend recommended Playtex drop-ins, so I am registering for both and we will see which one our little guy likes better...

Re: Bottles?

I have used Advent from day 1, I never had a problem with them leaking, just don't tighten them too much.

I BF'd and bottle fed and she went back and forth.

I have the Advent sterilizer, to me, it was a waste, i used it 2 times. We just wash bottles in the dishwasher or in hot/soapy water.

Re: Bottles?

I registered for the Playtex drop ins. My brother used them w/ my nephew and I was able to experiment with them and like them. Think I like that the whole bottle doesn't need to be sterilized

Re: Bottles?

I used avent - b/c I had their handpump and a bottle was included, so I got used to it. They are easy to clean

We did not have any issues with gas, but when babies do, Dr. Browns is recommended - but PITA to clean!

As for a sterilizer - you don't need one, you can boil for 10 minutes - that's what I did, but it go to be a pain, so I bought the avent microwave sterilizer for $30 and it was great! Another option is to put them in the dishwasher! That's what I did after I collected enough bottles to go the whole day.

If you are breastfeeding, you don't need much to start with - so you can go with minimal stuff and decided which works best for you from there

the vent aire ones. they come in "standard" and "wide." they are similar to the johnson's healthflow i used with my first and i loved them...she never had gas and rarely spit up.

i think i bought about 8 small ones and 9 large ones and registered for a couple of giftsets.

i did get a sterlizer b/c we have no dishwasher and i am too impatient to boil things.

Re: Bottles?

I don't really have a preference on bottles but the best nipples (well in my opinionChat Icon ) are the Gerber NUK ones. My daughter had no problem switching from breast to bottle with those nipples.

Re: Bottles?

Avent...Although Im planning to have the palytex one's on hand as well just in case he doesnt take to the avent.

If I had a dishwasher I would go with Dr. Browns, but I just cant imagine hand washing those. I hate washing anything.

Which leads me to buying as many bottles as possible as well, so I dont have to be washing them constantly.

I registered for the Avent microwave sterilzer, it fits all bottles.

Re: Bottles?

Ok, so I'm clueless here...so, as long as you run them through the dishwasher on the normal setting, even with your other dishes, they're 'sterilized' and you don't need to buy a sterilizer? Chat Icon Guess I better get reading Chat Icon

Not necessarily...not all dishwashers get hot enough for sterilization to occur. That is why you should boil them...but for regular cleaning, the dishwasher is fine.

In my case, I have to handwash everything and know that they won't get as clean [on a regular basis] as opposed to a dishwasher...so I got a sterilizer to remedy this. I also like the sterlizer opposed to boiling because I can ignore it and forget about it...I have to watch the stove with a pot of boiling water on it!

Re: Bottles?

I used the Playtex ventaire and i am going to use them again. They have a lot of parts but DD never needed to be burped. she really never had any gas.

I just boiled the nipples once a week and ran the bottle in the dishwasher on the Sani cycle..my ped said that was enough.

Also be careful with boiling the bottles my sister almost set her house on fire because she and my BIl feel asleep while boiling them because they were so sleep deprived.. her MIL walked into a Apt full of smoke
