breastfeeding teachers?

I'm heading back into the classroom at the end of March and wanted to know if any teachers were pumping at work or did you just start to supplement? I'd like to continue to pump and give DD breastmilk until JUne if possible.

Is it possible to produce enough milk without pumping during the day?

DD will be 4 months when I head back so she will have just started cereal.

I've also started to pump and freeze so that I can have a nice backup.

Any tips will be helpful!!!

I went back to work in September when my son was 3 months and I've been pumping ever since, I plan to for the whole year. I pump once a day at lunch time for about 20 minutes and I get enough milk to leave him for the day, between 8-12 ounces. I didn't even start solids until 6 months. I use the Pump in style pump with a hands free nursing bra so that I can get some work done, talk on the phone or eat while pumping. It can be done, but it gets tiring at times too. I haven't had to supplement yet, but if you do, its okay, any breast milk is great for the baby. I wish you the best, FM me if you have any questions.

I went back to work when my daughter was 3 months old and I was pumpng as well. That last until about 7 1/2 months then I started to supplement because I wasn't getting enough, then around 8 months my pumping sessions (twice a day) were not very productive, so I stopped and now I only BF her in the morning and she is 10 months old now. You will definetly have to pump at some point in they day or your body will not keep the supply up. It does get tiring.

I'm only getting 4-5 oz. when I pump. Will I get more as the baby demands more?

Also, where do you pump? I won't be able to do it in my classroom, I have a wall of windows into the hallway!

Your supply should adjust as you baby does, but mine slowed down, I guess it all depends, that is why I'm not pumping anymore. I'm, not a teacher but my work had a room specifically for that. You should check with your school. They may have something or there may be an office or conference room you can use.

I go back to work the same time as you and plan on pumping as well. I share a room with another teacher so I am going to take my trusty pump around the hallways and find another empty classroom to use. I plan on pumping at least 2* during the day around the time I think my baby boy would be eating. Good luck.

I went back to work when my son was almost 10 months. I would pump in the morning before I left while he was nursing on the other side (my lactation consultant told me to do that) and then depending on the day, I would pump once or two times. I have lunch at 12:00 so if I had a morning prep, I would pump then as well. I still BF my son here and there and he is 14 months old, but hardly ever pump now. I stopped bringing the pump to school when he was 13 months old.

I BF exclusively for the first four months. Then I replaced one feeding feeding with formula for a few weeks, then a second daytime feeding with formula. For four weeks before I returned to work, I "practiced" feeding her at 6 am, 4 pm, and 7:30 pm. I was able to regulate my supply very well. She gets two bottles of formula during the day and its working out great! I couldn't /wouldn't pump at work but really wanted to continue to BF.

Thanks so much ladies! I am still not sure if I feel comfortable pumping at work. But I'm still considering it.

It makes me feel good that so many of you continued to BF while working!!

You might be able to find a room that is not being used during your prep or lunch time. I know some people who have also used the nurse's office or the principal's office.
