Question about onesies and newborns
I bought a bunch of newborn and 0-3 months regular onesies. My friend just told me that I can only use the onesies that snap on the side until the belly button falls off. Is this really true? Does this mean I can't use any of the regular snap crotch onesies for the first few weeks?

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I've never heard of that before. My SIL had her daughter in the regular onesies even before her belly button fell off. I'd check with your doctor to see for certain.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
i can't say for sure either but my sister has 5 kids and i can swear that i remember them wearing the onesies that snap at the crotch. i think that it's fine but i am interested to see what the others say. i wonder if it's true....

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I used the side snap ones at first. I don't think you "have to" but it just seemed more comfortable to me and gentler on her umbilical stump.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I only used the ones that snapped between their legs. I took such good care of her belly button that it didn't fall off for 4 weeks. However, I would skip buying newborn oneies and stick to the 0-3 months. The baby will grow too quickly out of the newborn size and it really doesn't matter if they are a little big to begin with.

I agree. You may get lucky and the cord will fall off quickly.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I used both and her cord fell off at two weeks. Maybe that was why...
My DD is a month old and STILL in her newborn onsies so I would get a few just in case. She still doesn't fit into her 0-3 clothes.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
Not true! We used the crotch snap ones from the start and it did not irritate it at all.

Your friend is trying to scare you. I never worried about half the things I read on here with my first...her belly button was fine and I certainly put her in PJs, onesies and other items that covered it up.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I used the side snap onsies until her cord fell off. It prob would have been okay to use the crotch snap ones, but with a newborn, it's soooo much easier not to put things over their head and less crying for them.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
You can use either one. Many people prefer the side snap bc you don't have to pass it over the baby's head and they think that it won't irritate the umbilical cord.
I preferred the full onsies bc I hate when the clothes ride up and the baby's back is exposed.

Re: Question about onesies and newborns
I only used the croch snap ones and her cord fell off. I have the side snap shirts and still haven't used them.
FYI- Gerber onsies tend to run small so if you get those I wouldn't stock up on the newborn size
