Refinish a FIREPLACE?

Has anyone taken off a brick front of their fireplace and replaced it with stone?

Im not thinking marble cut tiles/slabs, but rather real river rock type stones...

(I love Rocks, and am a huge fan of that look, esp. as seen in older arts and crafts style homes)

TIA!
CA

i bet they could do the stone right over the brick. I think that i know what you are talking about as far as the look goes. Is it similar to what some people have started putting on the bottom of their showers? Let me see if i can find a picture.

Re: Refinish a FIREPLACE?

We had a stone fireplace to begin with but it was like someone just grabbed a full stone and stuck it in cement. It was round and bulging. I didn't really like it so we had our mason come in take down the entire thing and split all the rocks so they were flat on one side and put them all back up. It can def. be done.

And like the above poster, I'm sure you can go right over the brick work you have.

cut stone fireplace

yeah, would def. take the stones I have and cut them in half, and stick them up...just wondering if that is something i can do, or do i need to hire a mason...I have access to the tool that cuts the stones...

as far as removing the brick...if I don't then I think the fireplace might stick out too far...
