An update and a "THANK YOU"...(Long)
As many of you on here know, Hannah has a lot of difficulties with feeding. We had a feeding evaluation done to rule out sensory issues, anatomy issues etc. I have to say that every one on here has been ultra supportive, and never judgemental and I am truly thankful to each and every one of you who have responded to me and my dh.
basically, she doesnt qualify for therapy b/c she is doing great! while there are motor delays due to having tortacolis and serious arching due to reflux, cognitively she is on par with her peers.
the feeding specialist was so great. she showed me how to get hannah to eat better. many of us probably feed by putting the front of the spoon directly into dc's mouth. she said that the first 1/3 of the baby's tongue is their gag reflex, which is why Hannah gags so much, b/c that's where I have been putting the spoon! Instead, she had me put the spoon in her mouth and then push it off to her side. She also made the cereal much thicker than I had been making it and Hannah liked it much better.
She also recommened not mixing textures at a feeding, so I should mix everything with cereal like fruit, meat and veggies.
Oh and she said that if Hannah gags while eating I should push down on the top of her head b/c it stops the gag reflex. I never knew that and boy does it work!
I just wanted to give an update to everyone, but also wanted to share this information for those who have "difficult" eaters. If anyone is interested in info please fm me.

Re: An update and a "THANK YOU"...(Long)
the feeding specialist was sooo great. she had us use towels to prop hannah at a 90 degree angle in the high chair. she said thats the only position we should feed her in. she just needs some extra support b/c she is not yet sitting up by herself. i thought that was another useful hint.
the main thing that abby told us was that i needed to make sure i kept my frustration at a minimum (which i knew but it is so hard to do), make feeding a positive experience and to stop when she says to stop. i have been so worried about getting in her solids that i have inadvertenly made feeding a negative experience by not listening to hannah's cues.
etd to add: she also reiterated that formula was the most important right now, so we are only going to give her solids 2x a day, so her fluid intake will increase.
