Staples vs. stitches?

What did everyone get when they had a c-section? I'm just curious? Down here in NC I've had 2 c-sections and they only do the stitches inside and out, which I am more than happy with instead of staples. My friend in NY has had 4 c-sections and has had staples every time. It's great not having the staples because the stitches just dissolve and you don't have to get them removed. Chat Icon

staples. they removed them in the hospital and then put butterfly stitches on, which fell off on their own over time.

Same here, except they actually removed the butterfly bandages in my OBs office a few days later.

Re: Staples vs. stitches?

OK this is weird but I just had staples-
I had a c-section saturday morning and they were removed in the hospital Tuesday b/f I came home.
I was pretty much healed @ that point- the scar was red but it was "all together".

Re: Staples vs. stitches?

For my c-section, I had staples. For other surgeries, I have had stitches, and I think I would have much preferred the stitches for my c-sect if I had the choice!

I didn't know what they were putting in, I just assumed staples since they did that up in NY. I'm so glad I didn't get them! Chat Icon

I had stitches. There was one running stitch that was removed before I left the hospital then the rest were dissolving.
I had Jeremy 4 1/2 months ago and I barely have a scar now Chat Icon

Stitches, but my doctor originally wanted to do staples but another doctor who i knew personally said she perferred stitches and he went along with her. She told me after the fact that doctors are more cautious about stiches because they are more apt to open up then staples are but they cause less of a scar.

Mine didn't open up and i love the way my scar looks now.

Re: Staples vs. stitches?

I will not allow them to staple me. It is written in my chart that I am to be stitched.

I had staples that were taken out at the hospital about 48 hours after - it was completely heeled at that point. Its pretty amazing actually b/c now at just 5 weeks you can barely see the scar!

I had staples and they were removed in the hospital the morning I was going home. It was no big deal...didn't hurt at all.

Then I got the steri-strips which the doctor took off at my 2 week check up--only because I was too skeeved to do it myself!

Wow, I can't believe so many of you had staples!

I had a c/s with my first and just had stitches with steri-strips over that. Nothing to remove. I healed beautifully!
