Convertible car seats say they can accomodate all sizes...so why am I getting an infant car seat too?

What is the best convertible car seat in terms of safety? Also, what in the heck is a booster car seat? Do I really NEED all of these?

Also...dumbest question of all time but I really don't know...why do car seats fit into strollers? Is it just so you don't have to take a sleeping baby out of a car seat and disturb them?

Convertible seats really arent very safe for newborns. They are designed more for older babies.

Britax is the highest rated Convertible seat. SOme Britax models go up to 65 lbs as a max weight. You wont need a booster likely with that.

Other convertibles dont go that high and if your child doesnt reach the height min to get out of the seat you will need to buy an addtional booster when they get older.

SOME infant seats snap into strollers.

Yes its for convienence.

To add to this...the Britax model that goes to 65 lbs is the Marathon.

All very good questions, glad you asked them, as I'm clueless too! I think I may register for an infant seat that snaps into a stroller, and then maybe the Britax Marathon, so hopefully those are the only 2 I'll have to get for the child.

We got the infant snugride - b/c it is safest for an infant.

We then registered for the convertable - Britax Roundabout since it got the best reviews.

A lot of people like the Marathon b/c it goes to 65 lbs - but many people I spoke to with older children said that they ended up getting a booster seat - as the older children refuse to ride in the kiddie seat when they get older - this is also what baby bargains says as well.

Thanks so much everyone. I have already registered for the Graco Snugride Infant Car seat, but I will also add the Britax convertible seat....didn't realize what the big difference is until now. There is so much to buy for baby! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have both the snugride and the Marathon. DD is 8.5 months old and i just put her in the Marathon, She is still on the smallest straps, I cannot see how anyone could put a newborn in that seat even though it says you can put them in itChat Icon

Def get both.

Also, I was told, kids have to be in booster seats until they are 4'9'' and 100 lbs, so you will need another booster seat after the Marathon to accomodate an older child. Better safe than sorry, i would rather spend more money, then have my kids unsafe in my car and be harmed by the seatbelt in a crash.

From AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) Website
"Remember, seat belts are made for adults. If the seat belt does not fit your child correctly, he should stay in a booster seat until the adult seat belts fit him correctly. This is usually when the child reaches about 4' 9" in height and is between 8 and 12 years of age."

Actually its only till they reach 4'9.....or 7 years old.....( NY state law anyway) the weight max is not a requirement. Heck some adults dont weigh 100 lbs.

I have quite a few friends who used the marathon and none of their kids ever needed a booster. 65 lbs is a very high weight for a child .....

The Marathon though only accomodates up to 49 inches though, that's only about 4 feet. You would still have another 9 inches of support the child would need, even if they don't meet certain weights or the weight max of the marathon.

I would rather be safe. I wish I didn't have to buy something else, we will have to buy 2 booster seats within months of each other since they will be so close in age.

I am pretty sure it's age 8, and 4'9'', I stand corrected about the weightChat Icon

ETA: THIS IS TOO DAMN CONFUSING!!!
