Re: Anyone take the GRE?

I HATED the computer one. I would have preferred taking the paper one. I need to be able to stare at it on the paper. I did horrible on the GRE, and I KNOW it had to do with doing it on the computer.

I took the computerized one. You canNOT go back after answering a question.

However, you do get your score instantly, so that was a big plus for me.

Re: Anyone take the GRE?

You can';t take it paper based anymore..not for years now

ETA: And the computer testing has very specific scoring rules, so make sure you study that. It's not about the # of questions you get right, but WHICH yu get right, Getting a Q right or wrong determines what the next Q will be.

This is correct. I took it in Fall of 2002 and wanted to take the paper one, since I had taken it MANY years ago and did well. I only used a book to prepare and really wish I had used software, since I think I would have done better My scores dropped about 100 pts. in the math and analytical sections from the first time I took it, and this was after many more math courses - I am convinced it was b/c I was unprepared for the format of the computerized test.

It is great taking the computer one cause of the score...

I always work off my computer with writing so the comp was the best for me!

When I took the Gmat I studied from November to March.

I had a private Math tutor that came to my house every week.

If i were you I'd take a timed practice exam..

then I'd see where you were weak.

And then maybe get a tutor or take a class specifically for those weaknesses.

Again - you CAN'T take the paper one anymore. They don't offer it, unless you live in certain foreign countries.....

Check it out:

Re: Anyone take the GRE?

Are you asure you signed up for the right exam and not a subject test? According to the bulletin there are no US paper based general testing centers. I worked for Kaplan, and as far as I knew from them you can NOT take it paper based.. I would just double check your registration.

Re: Anyone take the GRE?

I didn't think you could take it paper based any more either! I took my Psych GRE on paper, but my general had to be on the computer. I hated this format and would have much rather done it on paper, but I didn't have the option at that time.

Re: Anyone take the GRE?

i just looked at the GRE website and there is a long list of places where you can still take it paper based, including a bunch in NY and NJ.

Were those general testing sites? it looked like the squares were subject and the round ones general, and I didn;t see any round ones. I'm going to look into it. I'd MUCH rather take the paper based exam!

ETA: Where did you find that?

Oh, you're right! I didn't read the key carefully. I thought I was just looking at a guide for the general test centers

I was thinking that I would have known I could take the GRE on paper back in 2000, and I'm certain I couldn't.
