Do you like having central air?
We are looking at houses, some have it some don't. I have always been an energy saver, so in the summer, just turn on the AC in the room I need it. I am wondering if central air is going to blow all the energy saving I do, and also cost wise, if it is much more expensive than room air conditioners?

I grew up having it- I love it
I think it using less engery or the same as room A/C b/c you run it all the time- the house never gets hot- so you don't have the period where you are trying to cool the house down
but I could be wrong- plus every room in the house has it- including rooms like the Kitchen- which sometimes in the summer it gets too hot to cook unless you have Central air

Love it.
CAC uses much less electricity than window/wall units.
My father has a much smaller house than we do, uses window units and you would   if you saw his summer's electric bill. My CAC ran all summer (I was home) and the bill was a fraction of his.
Definitely a worthwhile investment.
ETA: When you look at a house find out how old the unit is. Some are so old it would pay to replace them.
Also, it's very easy to put CAC in a ranch, more challenging for a cape or colonial. You either have to rip up some walls a bit or put the ducts in closets.
We were doing so much construction to the house we put them through the walls when we installed the CAC.

we live in an apt now with CAC and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and so much more enegry efficient than wall units.
it also increases the value of your home

our house doesn't have it & its the first time in my life without it. I didn't think I'd miss it as much as I do because I love to be hot. However I hate the humid feeling the house has in the summer. no matter how much we run the wall units its still there.
I regret not putting it in when we were under construction, but we were in a hurry & overwhelmed. Its way up on my list off things to add though.

we have units in just about every room, plus some kind of large heavy duty blaster of a unit in our living room (which is really the center of the whole house).
This works great for us but yes, I would prefer CAC!!!!

We had it installed in our house last spring (we have a hi-ranch) and I will never buy another house with out it. I love it! Worth every penny we spent!

Coming from an apartment where we had the AC units that the tube goes out the window and you have to empty the water that collects in the bin every 4-6 hours. yourself....I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never had it growing up but now that we have it in our house, I can not be without it! You get spoiled that the entire house is one temperature & there are no hot spots! I love the fact that when i get out of the shower, I don't have to worry about getting all sweaty prior to getting dressed!
My electric bill was not bad at all this summer!
