How long do you keep boxes?
Everytime I buy something I wind up keeping the boxes in the attic for what seems like a donkeys age! I never know what to do with boxes for small appliances, vacuums etc...
So how long do normal people keep boxes and things like that for??
Assuming there are some normal people here...

My dh keeps boxes FOREVER because he likes to sell the item on e-bay after he's done with it and likes to have the box to go along with it.
Me...it lasts about 2 seconds after I take the item out of the box...it's in the garbage.

Me...it lasts about 2 seconds after I take the item out of the box...it's in the garbage.
I think its a great idea if you plan on reselling. With baby stuff I find myself keeping the packaging b/c that stuff has lots of resale value (most of it anyway) For a vacuum and other stuff, I toss it once I have the item for a week or so, just so I know nothing is wrong with the item.

it depends what it is..
if its something expensive like our Dyson or a computer, we keep them in our storage closet for several months. eventually they get tossed.
some boxes (like our kitchen aid mixer) we keep to put the item away in.
for the most part though, boxes get tossed!

DH is a box hoarder and has converted me- when we were dating, he'd been living in his apt for over a year, and had this pile of empty boxes sitting in his living room the whole time. The pile was taller than him (so over 6 feet!). I convinced him to toss them, he did, then a few months later we decided to move in together (my place) and we had to buy boxes because we had none.

depends...usually boxes get tossed...but some things we keep the boxes...ie, the christmas tree box, for storage obviously...and we kept the box to our dyson, which again we now use for storage in the attic.

I hate clutter so everything gets put in the garbage right away. Which isn't always a good thing as I am learning

They go right into the trash as soon as the item is taken out of them. HATE clutter.

ditto! sometimes if I want to test the item out and make sure it's working properly I'll keep the box a couple of days, but that's it!
