Finding out the sex of the baby....
How did you decide whether or not to find out?
I am one of those people who generally HATES surprises, but when it comes to my babies, I like the element of surprise. Odd, I know.
So when we learned I was pregnant again, I didn't even have to think twice, I do NOT want to find out whether IT is a boy or girl until birth. I am taking extra precautions and not having them tell me the heartrate of the baby so I don't have to piece it together as that pretty much gave it away for me last time.
Everytime someone asks if we are or if we know, DH gets annoyed when I say "We're not going to find out." He is annoyed because he thinks I get to make all the decisions [well, I'm the one gaining all the weight and stretching out...] and he wants to find out.
The thing is, as I explained it to him, the only way for him to find out is really for me to find out...and even if the dr. will whisper it in his ear in another room, what good would it do him? He would not be able to tell me or anyone else because if he told others, they would buy gender specific clothing/toys for the shower. Besides, if this baby is a boy and he knew ahead of time, there is NO way he'd be able to keep it in. He INSISTS the baby is a boy.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
It was an easy decision for me....
I dont need this type of surprise.
I want to decorate according to sex and I want to be able to register for gender related items....
I want to bond with the baby knowing who he or she is ahead of time as well.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
I am still kind of mad I have to wait as long as I do (finding out at 19 weeks)
My SMIL didn't find out with her first, and had to have aminos with her second two and she said she liked knowing SO much better.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
DH and I will find out the sex. We will welcome our child regardless of the sex. It's just easier planning for registry, etc. Although I still plan on sticking to neutrals.
You do have the option to let your DH know the sex if this is his wish. Just tell the doctor. Some friends have done that. It worked out great for them. He just would like to promise/make a commitment to respect your wish and not tell you what the sex is.

i'm all about full disclosure. It's so much easier to prepare when you know the gender!

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
I wanted to know, and DH convinced me that its the most amazing surprise - he did that for his 2 daughters...
as time goes by, there is a sense of excitement about not knowing - someone asked me - "But don't you want to know EVERYTHING about your baby?"
I told her - I do know everythng about my baby - just not the gender! I know when it hiccups, when its awake, what food it likes.... I'll have plenty of time to get to know my baby after its born as well....
For me, it just makes being PG so exciting - knowing not only after all this will I have a baby, but I'll be surprised by the gender. Of course I'm attached to the baby now, but when its born and I know the gender, it will make the welcome so much more special....

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
I don't think we are going to find out either. I don't want my baby to have his/her tastes predestined -- PINK for a girl and BLUE for a boy - I am so not into that. And if we found out, my family would find out, and that's how the shower would work - all blue or all pink. No thanks, kid will have time enough to develop his/her sexuality and likes/dislikes.
But I am pretty convinced it will be a boy. DH won;t even discuss the idea of a girl, lol!
Hey as long as it is healthy that is all that matters... I figure we have a 50/50 chance of one or the other!!

From the start DH and I have agreed that we want to know. I am not one for surprises...used to sneak and open my christmas presents before christmas.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
I think it's a wonderful surprise whenever you find out.
We did with our first and will with this one. It helped out a lot. the day of the birth is a big enough day.
People say tradition, but the only reason previous generations didn't find out was because there wasn't the technology there is today.

We were all for the surprise. Then at 26 weeks I was so tired of yellow and green.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
We always knew we'd find out. To me if you find out at 20 weeks or 40 weeks its still a nice surprise! I loved shopping, decorating, calling her by her name, etc. throughout the pregnancy.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
I'm too much of a planner not to find out. We found out with my son and with this baby. I think not knowing exactly when I'll give birth is surprise enough for me.

Re: Finding out the sex of the baby....
This is our first child and we dont want to know the sex. It will make the labor/delievery easier for me since I will push so much since at that point I will want to know
