Leftover Nazi
My sister is a leftover nazi. The last Thanksgiving she hosted, my other sister was making a plate for her husband who was working and couldn't be there and Nazi sister said, "You're taking leftovers?! They can feed my kids for a week!" She freaked out, all mad at her. I kid you not.
But my other sister willingly offers leftovers for anyone to take home, for any occasion. Not just Thanksgiving.
Should it be understood that no one gets the leftovers but the person hosting? Do you offer your guests take-home plates?
No matter what the opinion, I think if a family member can't be there and misses out on a turkey dinner & holiday with their family, one plate is the least you can do.

Re: Leftover Nazi
we all take leftovers- from all occassions
and we make plates for those who couldn't be there- even if I just go to my grandma's for sunday dinner and jake stays home- he gets a plate!
like her kids want to eat leftovers all week!

Re: Leftover Nazi
I get annoyed when people start loading up their plates at dinner and the say "I'm going to take this home"..why take away from what someone coud have at the table to bring it home for you? I think that's selfish. We do send home elftovers, and i think if someone's DH ahs to work, the LEAST you can do is send home a plate of food. How can you be so selfish? I doubt a plate of food will feed her kids for a week, and what would she do if he COULD make it, be in the poor house?

Re: Leftover Nazi
I take my lead from the host and take only if the host offers after everyone present is done.

Re: Leftover Nazi
I'll take leftovers if offered and offer all leftovers up for grabs. Without question a family member gets a plate if they've missed dinner.

I always send everyone home with doggie bags. That is, if they want it.

Re: Leftover Nazi
When my parents or my sister and BIL host holidays, we always go home with tons of leftovers.
When DH's parents or aunt and uncle host, we get nada! His aunt will give his mom stuff to take home, but no one offers it to us. His mom almost never has leftovers...she makes enough for the meal, with every little extra, which is just so weird to me!
