We won't have garbage pickup!

Where we are moving in NC, we will be out of city limits, so there is no garbage removal! We were down there visiting the house last weekend and we were talking to the neighbor and I was like, "when does the garbageman come?" He looked at me and laughed and said, "welcome to the country!" He actually pays $20 a year and takes his garbage to the Johnston county landfill! I'm like, "you have to DRIVE your garbage?" I was laughing so hard! Our other option is paying $175 per year to have a contract with a rubbish removal company......I think we'll take THAT option!! Chat Icon

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore! Chat Icon Chat Icon

So true... I hate taking out the garbage to the curb... I cannot even imagine me putting it in the back of my car and driving with it! Chat Icon

Chat Icon This is sooo funny to me.

As an upstate girl we had the same thing. We would actually *burn the papers* and bring the recyclables to the *transfer station* Most in town did this.

You could always point out the *city folk* because they would have their garbage picked up.Chat Icon

Lorich I am with you...where I grew up upstate, garbage pick up wasn't even an option...LOL

We had a burn barrel out back and made weekly dump runs.

I must say, I enjoy being spoiled now, and having someone pick up my garbage...I don't know that I could go back!!

PS...where did u grow up?

Re: We won't have garbage pickup!

Where my family's house in Amagansett is, there is no garbage pick up. We'd always have to take a trip to the dump. I really didn't think it was that terrible.

Though I much prefer not having to do it.

Re: We won't have garbage pickup!

And to think I was complaining to my dh because we only have our garbage picked up once a week where we live here in N.C. I would hate to have to drive it to a dump. I would definitely pay the $175.

Re: We won't have garbage pickup!

When we first moved to Holbrook 28 years ago, we, also, had to contract for garbage pick-up. We drove ours to the dump until the day my husband, when throwing the garbage from the trunk of his car, also, threw the car keys. Not long after that, we had pick-up service.

I know, I say that to DH all the time.... Our recycling also only gets picked up once a month (at least it's free), but yet the don't pick up boxes, we have to collapse them and take them to the recycling center ourselves (hence, all the boxes in our garage that we unpacked when we moved in)

my sis lives in CA in a VERY nice area and they have to pay $40 a month for the garbage service. I think that is nuts. property taxes should cover it all.

Re: We won't have garbage pickup!

when my parents moved to holbrook in the early 1980s they didnt have garbage pickup either- you had to pay a "private company" (waste management, wink wink) to pick it up.
