They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
Yesterday was the first day of school for DD- we are in a new district, new school, in 1st grade. My sister was at my dd bus stop 15 minutes early- just to be safe. At 3:26 i got a call from a woman that says " is this ariel's mom" I said- Umm Yes, she said "this is bonnie and i have your daughter" I said WHAT- Who is Bonnie and where is ariel. She said' The bus just dropped her of and there is no one here for her"- I said- Yes my sister is there, i just got off the phone with her, where is she" To make a long story short- the bus driver dropped of my little 5 year old at the wrong stop. Thank god DD new my work # and had someone call me, and thankfullly my sister was just at the other end of the block. It was the scariest 2 minutes, having no control of the situation and knowing that my DD is with a stranger (thankfully it was a good one). I am so annoyed & worried that this might happen again. Im waiting on my call back from the transportation department to find out what happend. Thanks for listening to my scary story

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
Holy crap! I would be furious!! They are NOT supposed to release kids to ANYONE but the parent without a note.
Meredith - call the Bus Transportation office & let them have it.
eta. on the other hand, it confirms my theory on the mom network. We all look out for each other's kids.

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
I called and im waiting for a response. I am picking her up today and i am goign to go there myself to talk to them in person. EI has a new policy that after kindergarten, the bus drivers are not responsible for the kids. They drop them and go, and if no on is there for them, its the parents fault. The bus driver does not have to make sure some one is there for the children. I HATE THAT RULE!!!!

My heart almost stopped reading your post...you poor poor thing. Thank goodness another mom took care of her.....
Maybe you should get a petition going among the other moms to try to get this ridiculous rule changed....

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
I am so sorry you had to go through that. Not for nothing that is a horrible rule to enforce. I mean anyone can just be waiting at a bus stop and snatch a child then I would really give the transportation dept. heck for that I mean look at all the petifiles out there and what just be cuz a child is a year older thats makes it ok. I mean come on that is retarted.

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
Call the school and speak to the prinicpal as well. The children need to ALL be taught what to do in a situation like this. Thankfully your daughter new your number and another mom stopped to help her. That is VERY scary!!! I would complain A TON. They are responsible for leaving your child at the right stop!

OMG!!!!!!! That is horrible! The transportation dept. would not know what hit them if that happened to me! They have a responsibility to return all the children to THEIR PARENTS safe and sound! There is no excuse!

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
OMG I would be so scared too!!! What a smart daughter you have to know your work #. What makes me even more nervous is my daughter just started kindergarten in EI!! I didn't know that starting with 1st, they have that rule
Yesterday, on their first day, she is the last one off the bus and the bus driver looked at me and another father and said, "Do you have all your kids?" She had one boy LEFT on the bus!! Which must have meant that a parent was late to a stop. The bus driver didn't realize it until the last stop, so she was bringing the boy back to the school to sit with the principal until a parent came to get him.

that sounds like you need to make a HUGE thing about this and maybe the bus driver needs to be fired. this is a HUGE deal they are supposed to make sure someone is at the bustop for the kids!!!

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
in my school district if noone is there to pick up the kid the bus driver takes them back to the school I know that applies to the kindergarten and i believe first graders and I think that is how it should be. my nephews bus driver basically drills whoever picks him up at the bus stop if it isnt his mom she almost didnt release him to me last year until my neighbor told her that she knew me. it was annoying but in the end I think calming knowing that the bus driver is not just going to let any one take the kid off

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
Lemme tell you I would be PIIIIIIISSSSED! I would create hell for them! Is it the same bus driver that you see in the morning? I would even go as far asi to speak with the bus driver. Because not only is their policy insane, BUT THEY DROPPED HER OFF AT THE WRONG PLACE! That is the driver's error, and even with that assinine rule if they had dropped her off at the right place there would have been someone there and all would have been well!!!
Grr! That makes me so angry!

I would be so mad!!! I hope this didn't scar Ariel. Most kids biggest fear is that the bus driver doesn't know where to bring them. to you & Ariel

Re: They dropped her at the wrong stop-LONG
That policy is just wrong and I would be mad as helll. This is not the first time I heard of such a thing. Last year TWICE the school sent my coworkers daughter home on the bus when she was supposed to go to afterschool and just dropped her off. NO ONE WAS HOME. Fortunately a good neighbor saw her walking on the street and let her in. To make matters worse she is a twin so they kept one in aftercare and sent the other one home wrongly (even after the kid said she was supposed to be in aftercare).
So teach your kids what to do and not to get off the bus unless they see you. Thank goodness she knew your number.
