Spinoff from another post...What makes you fail the glucose test?

I haven't gone for mine yet...I'm 23 weeks...but, have been reading that you're told to fast for hours and then some of you ladies have failed that test...

So, I ask...does anyone know why one would fail this test? Did they not fast correctly or is it something completely different?

Thanks!

I did not fast at ALL for the test, my doctor said that for the 1 hr. it isn't necessary. My test was done at 7pm, because I work and so I always make evening appts, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I questioned all of that even to the diabetes councelor/nutritionist after the fact, because I felt that maybe the test wasn't done accurately, and she said that even if I had fasted or not, my blood sugar never wouldn't have gotten up as high as it did (186) if my body was able to process the sugar levels.

For my one hour I was told I did not have to fast but I did only because I tool the test at like 8 am and I usually eat breakfast later when I would get to work. I failed. And I failed the 3 hour. It is how your body processes sugar. So even if you ate a big meal before - you are still waiting the hour before your blood is tested - so the sugars should have processed correctly. If you sugars are super high - you have it. Then there are people in the middle ground and that is why you take the three hour. The three hour is the real telling one and you have to fast to make sure nothing can throw it off.

I didn't fast for mine either and i passed. SOme ladies just have trouble when they are pg digesting certain types of sugars. No everyone that fails their one hr test is diabetic. Most people i know that failed the 1 hr, passed the 3 hr. It all depends.
