Spinoff to My2Boys' dentist question for BTDt MOMS...

At what age did you first bring your child to the dentist?

And do you bring your child to the pediatric dentist or your regular family dentist?

I've read in books that as soon as they have teeth they should go...other people have said wait until they are about 3 years old.

Not like she has any teeth yet or anything!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to My2Boys' dentist question for BTDt MOMS...

we just brought them this past june.
ONe was 3 1/2 one was 2.
We went to a pediatric dentist so that it would be a fun experience for them and it was!
The dentist said she DOESNT expect 2yr olds to sit at all, and she usually just does a quick check and cleaning.

I cant imagine bringing them before 2. As long as you establish good brushing habits, there's no reason to go, unless you have them on your dental insurance and its covered. We just put them on the dental insurance when John Anthony turned 3, and then, we just did "family coverage" (Before it was just us 2). so we took both since both were covered. Now they have checkups twice a year.

Unless you have problems, I dont think there's a need to go before 2 1/2 even, and I think there might be rules with dental companies on what age they cover children.

My ped recommends 3 years old. Sean turned 3 last month and I'm in the process of finding a new family dentist. DH's insurance doesn't cover pediatric dentists, so I need to find someone who treats both adults and kids.
