Again, i've never heard of a Obstacle gym place that has a party room yet doesnt provide food to order from and doesn't allow parents to view their kids. Would loooovvee to know the name of this place. Sounds new.

Same and my kids are adults and I never had to bring food in anyplace.

I had a party once at a pottery painting place once and we had to bring out own food, but that was just a small place so I could understand it I guess. When I had a party business we marked up the food so it was a money maker for us, as I am sure it is at almost every party place. Not sure why they would want people to bring in their own food. It can also be an issue having people bring in whatever they want if there are allergy kids at the party.

True and they can easily order out now too.

It might be more common in the city. I live in westchester and none of the party places in my neighborhood provide food. You bring it in yourself.

The not being able to check on your kids without paying $35 is bizarre.

We've had a party at a gym place and we had to bring in our own food too, it's not uncommon. But people were allowed to check on their children for free.

Interesting. Never heard of such a thing but i guess if im paying a certain price, I want it all inclusive.

The not allowing parents to view your kid without charging a fee to watch your kids is the part that i would find questionable at any place. Its like amusement parks like Adventureland that charge fees to walk around and watch your kids. Sounds like a money grab. I wonder how many people got a surprise bill for parent pop ins.

They call it a "party room" - but it could just be a storage room. *shrug*

They do not offer food as an option. I've asked.
But that might not be so strange, last week I was at a place called "Get Air" - a trampoline park and they did not offer food either. They had two vending machines for food (one for chips, etc and one of those ice cream pellets) but no real food.
There was a party going on, and it looked like the family brought some pizza

I'm a paranoid and an over thinking person - with my luck the place is owned by someone's best friend from here.
If people are interested, then I'll post the name of the place after the event and also a wacky thing I was told by them.

Do we need to say this on a birthday invite?

My sister’s daughters have had gymnastics parties where the parents can’t go in the gym area but can observe through windows. It didn’t bother me at all. My son is 8 and the other party goers were 5-9. No one seemed to be concerned. At 7, many of my son’s parties were turning into “drop off” parties.

Have you not toured the place before booking the party? Wouldn't you or your wife asked what the party room looks like or gotten a tour to see it?

Why would it make a difference if someone knew the place as you are not dissing it, you are just simply asking questions?

Are you doing all the planning or is your wife helping too? Has she asked around the same questions?

I called around and got a list of 10 potential party places - passed them to my wife to get her opinion. On a weekend, I had to work so she took the kids to the place and she liked it so we decided to book it.

*shrug* - some people don't like being talked about.

Here's a question for you all - a few people have responded with "Sharon will be going, but can her sister come too? I'll pay for her"

How should we handle this? The first RSVP back that said this we said "Don't worry about it, we'll cover her too"

Then we got another one with "David will be coming, but can I bring his two brothers? I'll pay for them"

Should we offer to pay for the siblings also? We don't want to look cheap by saying "Yeah, YOU pay for them"
But pretty soon, the siblings will equal the original guest list! (kind of kidding) We've had 3 replies with siblings added on. (one has two siblings)

For the siblings - do you have a limit of how many kids you can have at the party?

We've invited 30 kids.

The party is: 20 kids included with the cost.
Every kid over 20 is $35 each.

I would reply with "Siblings are welcome to join. It's $35 per child, but if we get any no rsvps or are under our limit we may be able to cover them. We'll let you know by xyz date."

Who is responsible for the siblings when they are in the gym? I mean, it's nice they are willing to pay for them to be part of the fun, but I always wished it could just be for the kids invited. But i do I agree with pomegranates response.

Personally, I would say that you cannot accommodate siblings due to space restrictions.

I find the fact that people even ask to be incredibly rude.

If you do have space and don’t mind them coming, I would probably just cover them.

lol - So far we have 6 siblings coming.

We've already told them that we'll cover them.

One of the mother's had an end of year party last year and was very generous (they had an entertainer, which must be $$$) so I told my wife "They spent big bucks on the party last year, so the least we can do is cover the two siblings"

Now my wife is saying "If we covered some siblings, we have to cover all. If the two moms talk and the one that had to pay finds out the other one did not pay, there's going to be hard feelings"
Makes sense, so we'll cover everyone.

>> Personally, I would say that you cannot accommodate siblings due to space restrictions.

We don't have the WHOLE gym, its going to be business as usual for them. There's going to be non-party kids there. So we can't say "there's no space" because the gym is continuing to sell tickets during the party time.

How much are you budgeting for this party as $35 for every extra kid seems like this will cost a lot?

This sounds like it might get out of control and your wife is trying to keep up with the Jones’ by spending as much as the other parents.

Hopefully, that's all the siblings and you won't get anymore. If you can swing it financially, that's very kind of you. Hopefully, the parents with siblings attending will be nice and pamper your daughter with a nice gift from the whole family. Just enjoy the day, take lots of pictures and don't stress. Some of these kids may still be friends with your daughter for many years to come.

I think my wife watches too much HGTV.
We just had a little disagreement because she wants to have: bagels, pastries, other snacks for when people show up. She was looking to buy a K Cup coffee maker for people to use.
I think thats way too much to do.

Anyway to tell people not to bring a gift but a gift card instead? (like weddings) :)

I think it is extremely rude for people to ask to bring siblings. However, I probably would have handled it the same way you did and just suck it up. Kids birthday parties are completely out of control. My kids are older now but still want celebrations. My husband I decided to limit it to $500 per kid on the parties though. And for us, the party is their gift. They don't get anything in addition to the party.

The coffee maker thing is over the top. You can get a box of Joe from Dunkin Donuts if you want to provide coffee to the parents.

Not to change the subject but my friend just had someone respond to her daughter's bridal shower with a plus one. Someone my friend doesn't even know, a coworker of the invitee.
Sorry but you need to have a set to do that.

Exactly. Too stressful IMO for a kids bday. Give me a piece of pizza so I don't have to make my own lunch and I am fine lol

THis is definitely too much. You are going to feed them breakfast and then an hour and a half later feed them lunch? If you want to get a box of joe as the others suggested that would be nice but I wouldn't do anything more than that!
