Luggage? What do you have?

Don't laugh but we usually stay local for travel and I throw everyone's stuff into those TJMaxx 99cent bags! Each person gets a bag. Simple, easy.

But we are going away with a bunch of people and I think we need to step up our game a bit.

What luggage do you have?

Does each person get their own luggage?

Thank you!

Re: Luggage? What do you have?

I have way too much f***ing luggage.

In general, I don’t use soft luggage. Always hard-shelled. I usually stick to Samsonite. In my rotation I have one large and one medium hard-shelled pieces.

I then have a small rollie bag (Cath Kidston) and that is used for trips of two to three nights. It’s easier to use this bag combined with a shoulder bag because lately most of my travel is by train.

I also have duplicates of these sizes, but I don’t need them. I would say one large, one medium, and one small is ideal for one person who does various trips to “normal” locations; Africa often has different requirements.

We have the Amazon Basics hard shell ones and it was inexpensive and took a beating and has lasted us now 5 years.

Re: Luggage? What do you have?

We have some Samsonite I think- from Kohl's- it's soft sided.
I usually share a large suitcase with my daughter and my DH uses a smaller one for himself.
Packing cubes are a lifesaver to keep my daughter and my stuff separate in the same suitcase and also for keeping things organized.

Re: Luggage? What do you have?

In the carry on I put a change of clothing, toiletries, pajamas, and a bathing suit for each person just in case the rest of the luggage is lost. The rest of the luggage has pre made outfits for each person. And I split them so there are three or four outfits per person in each luggage. Terrible if you have one luggage lost and it has all of one persons items in it. Reduces the chances you are all out of everything.

Luggage? What do you have?

We have three soft sides carry ons that we use. I refuse to check luggage unless absolutely necessary. My husband is a very efficient packer which helps.

We ordered Coollife luggage from amazon. It's good quality and the bags can be stored inside one another.

We have a set of three hard-shelled suitcases. I am a very heavy packer, so I usually end up using two of those at least lol. I also have a duffel that I'll use for a quick overnight...or in addition to my two suitcases lol.

Re: Luggage? What do you have?

We just replaced a set of 3 with this new set

https://www.amazon.com/SHOWKOO-Softside-Expandable-Lightweight-Armygreen/dp/B0B8215FQC/ref=sr_1_33?crid=3V0SM1CQUZVVV&keywords=spinner%2Bluggage%2Bset&qid=1670940963&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011&rnid=2661617011&sprefix=spinner%2Bluggage%2Bset%2Caps%2C94&sr=8-33&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0&th=1

We liked the wheels and I preferred for it to be soft side, because I can put a light jacket on the outside pocket.

I also pack similar to NervousNell: I pack my stuff with DS's stuff on the big one, and DH packs on the medium one, along with toiletries.

That is good to know, thanks. I was looking at Beis bags.
We only have two Delsey carry-ons, but they are actually a little too big for most flights now ( they are old), so we end up checking them & using a duffle bag as a carry-on.

If we are going for 2 weeks, we borrow a medium from my in-laws & check one of the large carryons. We mix everything in case 1 bag gets lost.

I hate sharing luggage though. I feel judged about my packing preferences. Chat Icon
