You paid $2,500 a MONTH for childcare? That is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't even have been able to work as I don't think I was even making that much when my kids were in daycare. I think I was paying like $193/week the last year I was and my company kicked in 25% to help employees out.
I paid around that for multiple kids - who are now almost 13 and 11.
I know! Its like my coworker who cant come in twice a week as childcare is too expensive. You paid before the pandemic!!! Why can you use that as an excuse now?

You paid $2,500 a MONTH for childcare? That is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't even have been able to work as I don't think I was even making that much when my kids were in daycare. I think I was paying like $193/week the last year I was and my company kicked in 25% to help employees out.
I paid around that for multiple kids - who are now almost 13 and 11.
I know! Its like my coworker who cant come in twice a week as childcare is too expensive. You paid before the pandemic!!! Why can you use that as an excuse now?
Seems people are just taking advantage of a situation that Covid created but that is over now. That is why employers are forcing people back into offices. A few bad apples have ruined it for everyone by taking advantage. Tale as old as time...

Yeah I get the idea that they did pay it before but that is just insane, IMO since daycare teachers make NOTHING near that amount.

Yep my daughter went part time- 3 days per week back in 2010 through 2015 and we were paying like 1200 + a month I think. I remember when she started Kindergarten and we didn't have to pay that anymore we felt like we had an extra income in the bank!

It is just crazy. They pay the teachers minimum wage or less.
We didn't even feel it in a good way as once the kids were out of daycare, they went to aftercare and camps and my husband was laid off at that same time (recession) and his pay went down a bit so it all equaled out.

I think that is the frustration the OP has with this situation. This person who "doesn't have to leave their baby or pay for childcare" is dropping the ball at their job because of it and causing her and others more work in the process.
It really isn't fair.
Caring for a baby is a full time job. You can't expect your job to pay you for 40 hours of work when you are not fully focused on your job due to caring for an infant.
This is exactly the reason for my frustration. It would be one thing if it didn't interfere with getting work done but it is and I am the one picking up the slack.

OP’s situation aside because it isn’t right that she should have to take on more work, I don’t think it’s a few bad apples. I think more people realized that it was possible to work from home and have a good work-life balance. There should be more maternity leave and better labor laws.
Personally, I think employers are forcing people back into the office because they are already paying rent and they want to micromanage. I get some people need an office, but others can work from home just fine.
They seem to be OK here with WFH, but we are in a major energy crisis right now, so it is saving money.

Yes - you can have a good work/life balance at home and still get your work done on time - many dont. The beginning of the month is really busy for us but I have a lot of downtime as my coworker takes forever to get tasks done that impact my work. Ive spoken to our boss about it (its the same one that cant afford childcare) and it seems its because she is caring for kids during the work day, her work is behind and she needs to work weekends.

I’m assigned to MANY conference calls during the week that have very little to do with me or my dept. I’ll be surfing the internet at my desk during the call, I’d love to be emptying my dishwasher or folding laundry instead! At least it’s productive.
But I can see where it can get sketchy and people majorly take advantage.
