DMV surrender plates recently?
Has anyone recently surrendered plates at a DMV location itself? Everything online is showing that you can mail them in but I’m wondering if that’s not updated from the past virtual type Covid stuff. I really much rather just drop them off so I can take the car off insurance faster. Is that still allowed?

DMV surrender plates recently?
You can drop them off without an appt. If you switched from the orange plates to the new plates you can just destroy the old ones.

Last summer I did it through the mail. It was pretty easy.

DMV surrender plates recently?
I've surrendered two sets in the past month. There is no longer a drop box for plate surrender. You have to go in and take a number and wait, which was only maybe 10 minutes. But if you're looking for a walk in/walk out type thing, maybe just mail them.
