Morning workout

Anyone workout in the morning before work? How do you do it? Coffee, pre-workout? I’m out of energy by the end of the day and I’m wondering if it’s even realistic to try to switch to morning workouts.

Morning workout

If I don't work out in the morning - I'll never get to it. I have been taking my son to school then working out when I get home. Thankfully I'm still working from home so it's "easier" to fit into my schedule.

Re: Morning workout

I'm not sure if I could do a serious workout that early in the day. Working from home allows me to get on the treadmill or weights downstairs during lunch, so I can stay consistent at least. Trying to do it after work is difficult, since there's always something else going on.

Re: Morning workout

I used to run on the treadmill on some mornings and other mornings I would do a dumbbell workout. (30-45 minutes. (Didn't have enough time to do both so I had to break them up on different days).

NO coffee; just a bottle of water. If DH was up; I would take a sip or two of his coffee but didn't need more than that. Put in my earbuds and off I went.

Then the summer came and started WFH a few days a week so I walk during my lunch hour when I am at work and I walk during lunch when I am home.

The winter I will have to go back to the AM workouts. It becomes routine. It's a good feeling when you know you are done for the day. Just hard to get out of bed b/c its so cold....Chat Icon

Morning workout

I workout before work. If I run, I’m up at 4:30. If I lift, I wake up at 4:50. I literally get dressed and workout until 5:40. I then shower, get ready and eat breakfast.

Re: Morning workout

DH and I have been working out before work. He’s done by 6:30 and gets ready for work. I jump on the tread at about 7 and finished by 7:30 and get ready for work. I make sure I’m up for at least 30 min before. All I have is water. No way I can wake up and get right to it immediately so having time to actually wake up helps. During that time I get my breakfast and lunch together and fill my daily water Bottle. I also try to clean 1 thing everyday before work so this is when I’ll do that. Whether it’s wiping the counters down, quick vacuum of first floor, clean one of the bathrooms etc. it’s almost a “pre-workout”

I understand I have it a little easier than most not having kids to get ready as well. So parents would have to do this earlier than I do

Morning workout

When I worked in NYC I did it as I was completely wiped when I got home.

I got up at 4:45 and hit the gym right away, I only had water first. I'd workout, shower, dry my hair (mostly) and go straight to the train from the gym. I'd make breakfast to eat on the train.

It was hard at first but it actually helped me have more energy throughout the day.

Now that I work at home most days, I get up, send one kid to school, jump on the Peleton and send the other kid to school most days.

I have a spin bike and treadmill. Being able to be home and NOT having to go somewhere is helpful. I wake up around 4:20. My thought process was this: I was already waking at 4:45. Another 20-30 minutes earlier wasn't that hard of an adjustment. I wear clothes to bed that I can exercise in. Changing into clothes when it's cold is NOT ideal. I don't sweat TOO much so I don't need a shower.

I have been doing it for a few months and I am SO much more routinized. If I waited until after work, I'd never do it. My schedule with kid stuff and grocery shopping, dinner, cleaning up, etc...I just don't have it in me. Doing it this way means I'm ACTUALLY getting it done. I am consistent.

No food or water until I'm done. And the sense of accomplishment I have while driving to work is huge. When I waited until after work, I actually found ways to talk myself out of it.

What I also like is that IF I want to do something after work, especially in the spring when it starts to warm up, I can and that's awesome!

I'm not going to lie...I have tough mornings. Especially if I don't get enough sleep or I'm due for my period.
