Aren’t 2,000 firefighters on medical leave also right now?

There are higher than normal numbers going on medical leave. Some are due to severe side effects from the vaccine, some are legit hurt, and some are just mad. At 9:30pm last night there were still people in line at the medical office.

Ones that could be out there helping the public BUT the mandates are harming people.

Doesn't anyone SEE how stupid this all is? They were perfectly fine to work BEFORE the vaccine. We cheered them all on (every night at 7pm for nurses) but now how DARE they not have a vaccine, we need to fire them.

I know a few NYPD and LI police officers who have already retired when this all started to get bad. ALL of them under the age of 50.

Yes.

There is a lot of chaos and disarray and at the end of the day... There will still be Covid, most likely at the same current rates...

Some of these first responders are coming up on their one year vaccine-iversary too, what happens then? Are they then considered unvaccinated? Are we going to be back at square one with this?

EXACTLY!! NO.ONE will answer this. I even tell my own mother what is the difference when she comes to that time when they say the vaccine does not work and she won't get a booster to me who is not vaccinated? NO.THING.
Also how do you determine then who is not fully vaccinated anymore? That would be full time job to keep up with that.

I’ve been asking this for a while and no one has an answer! At what point is a vaccinated person considered unvaccinated??? I’ve lost count of how many friends are not getting the booster because of all the new info on the effectiveness of the vaccine. Back in January/ February they thought it offered more protection and that they were protecting others. Now that they know they can still get and spread it they don’t find it necessary to get a booster every year. So now what? Do they lose their job? Do they lose their right to eat indoors in the city? Who is following up on this? I smell lawsuits from those that lost jobs or are denied certain things if this isn’t enforced.

Anyone live or work in NYC?

The NYPD has been having recruitment issues for YEARS...way before this vax mandate. Now however between the defund the police movement and the vax mandates it is much much worse.

People can try to bury their heads in the sand as much as they want but the fact of the matter is the city has changed drastically under DeBlasios leadership...and not for the better.

Remote workers are hesitant to go back to the office not so much because of COVID but because of the crime leaving empty office buildings and companies using their dollars elsewhere. People are also fleeing the city in large numbers. I know people who swore they would never leave NYC that are not actively looking to move.

As someone who was born and raised in NYC its so sad to see what it's become. Between the ludicrous vax mandates, vax passports, crime, grime its gone back to the days of Dinkins just more expensive. It's so sad. I own property with my family that we always swore we would never sell, keep for the kids etc and now we are looking to sell it since it seems like it will take a long time if ever for NYC to be restored. As long as progressive and liberal dems are voted into office things will continue to get worse.

There is no answer because no one is REQUIRING a 3rd dose/booster. People are eligible and it's voluntary. If you were vaccinated, at this point, you are still considered vaccinated. I don't think they will making a booster/3rd shot mandated.

I was just wondering because the Excelsior Pass expires on the one year date of your second vaccination... Which for many first responders is coming up soon.

So it won't be mandated but there is a limited time the other shots have. That makes absolutely no sense.

Once they "expire" you (in general) won't be vaccinated. You (in general) will be in the same boat as every other person who never was vaccinated.

I know for a fact if the FDA recommends the booster for everyone, then you will need to get the booster to get considered fully vaccinated at my job. They explicitly wrote it out in an email. And your vaccine will have to be up to day, so I’m assuming next year they will require everyone to show proof of up to date vaccine as they are making people do now. It’s only for executives and up now.

Nope, they will make you take a 3rd, 4th, 5th, one every year. It is absolutely ridiculous and as you can see, people are still getting sick and YES dying even after the vaccine.

At least when you are tested you KNOW you are not sick if you are not required to be tested with the vaccine.

It is just a cluster, IMO. All these people who ran for the shot now don't even know if they are covered at all anymore.

Just all so ridiculous. I will test every week and people are like aren't you getting tired of doing that? Even the doctor was like I hope they stop this soon for you guys. Probably because she is tired of stopping her day to come in to see if you have any questions. It is wasting her time. I will test as long as I possibly can. Taking an hour or less out of my day is not a big deal.

Yes, yes, yes

There is no answer because no one is REQUIRING a 3rd dose/booster. People are eligible and it's voluntary. If you were vaccinated, at this point, you are still considered vaccinated. I don't think they will making a booster/3rd shot mandated.

So let's say I get vaccinated and am fully vaccinated as of today
5 years from now I'm still good?

I know for a fact if the FDA recommends the booster for everyone, then you will need to get the booster to get considered fully vaccinated at my job. They explicitly wrote it out in an email. And your vaccine will have to be up to day, so I’m assuming next year they will require everyone to show proof of up to date vaccine as they are making people do now. It’s only for executives and up now.

That's what they are hoping for. That people will break down from the inconvenience of getting tested and say Eff it I'll get vaccinated.

When that plan didn't work for the city workers they decided testing wasn't good enough anymore and mandated it. with no testing option.
So obvious what's going on.

What the hell other vaccine in the history of the world requires this many "boosters' in this short a period of time?
Something is very wrong with the vaccine and maybe they should address that rather than continuously pushing the same old vaccine into people over and over and over again and hoping for a better result.

Anyone live or work in NYC?

I honestly do not understand a vaccine mandate when the unvaccinated can spread.
I got the vaccine FOR me. I don't care what anyone else does. I protected myself - I should not have serious outcomes if i get sick.
If vaccinated people can still transmit the disease what is the point of a mandate?

I’m a NYC teacher. It is NOT business as usual in my school. We have “subs” that are just bodies in the room with kids. If parents only really knew what is happening in their child’s school. Don’t believe what you’re seeing on the news.

This is what I was curious about when I started the thread. If it was all rainbows and butterflies I worry that it’s coming to the rest of the state.

Although, I am happy to hear that restaurants are still doing well. I was curious if they would suffer with the limitations, especially as temps dropped and no one wants to eat outside.

As far as city employees it is not business as usual. Do not believe the media.

The reality is while these city jobs *may* be short staffed in the short term (and honestly I HIGHLY doubt those city workers will give up their pension and benefits unless they are able to retire) they won't be for long. City jobs pay well and have fantastic perks like free health insurance, pensions, annuity plans that guarantee high rates of return. There WILL be people to fill these jobs.

Yes they'll need to be trained in the case of fire, cop, sanitation but they will be and we'll keep it moving.

They now can be PERSONALLY sued- as in lose their HOUSE- if someone makes an allegation against them.
[/QUOTE

This is not true.

They sue the department not the cop

Also I have never heard people with felonies can be NYPD LOL

You should probably look harder.
DH was NYPD and this is 100% true.
You can have a felony- a certain class and probably within a certain period of time - like X many years ago- and still get on the NYPD
This started about 10 years back when they were having recruitment issues.
Beggars can't be choosers.
But the general public only hears what the media wants them to hear so they can go see their Broadway shows and feel all safe.
Talk to real cops- you'll hear the real truth about what goes on in the NYPD.
Nobody wants that job anymore unless they are desperate or already invested in it and working to get their pension and get the hell out

Didn’t know about the felons honestly. I do know many cops, family , friends, since I was a kid, none ever raved about the job itself. Mostly they looked forward to 20 and out w full pension and benefits so my point is they’ll be able to fill the seats. Maybe not w the best candidates but they will. Same w firefighters and sanitation. As far asschools, the sub issue is bc the Union made a deal to hold position for people until next September no pay but benefits. Principals have plenty of candidates to hire (in the area I work which admittedly is a great district can’t speak for citywide). I guess my point is yeah this is a road bump but it’ll work out. People can gripe and complain and rightfully so but there will be people to fill the very few who leave the pension and benefits.

But in the interim - those who are vaccinated have their lives more at risk.

Wasn't really a surprise...

So many people who work in these city jobs - aren't eligible to vote (even though they do have to pay non-resident employee taxes to the city still).

They got rid of the city tax for non residents years ago, no? I didn't have to pay it for years working in the city and I stopped working in the city 14 years ago.
