My mother is 81 and suffers from depression and anxiety and mask wearing has attributed to her needing to up her medication. She also has Rosacea which is a skin condition and mask wearing makes her face breakout.

My children are being forced to wear them because the vaccine is not available to them and they also hate wearing them. it is uncomfortable to wear something for 6 to 7 hours a day like a muzzle. My children would come home with a completely soaked mask from sweat and their own saliva which to me was pointless having one on. It is also hard to understand the teachers with one on and fellow students, which in turn causes anxiety and depression on the younger generations.

My DH and I do not like them either for all of the above reasons and do not believe in the"science" behind them.

Well they must have been doing something because every school year strep, stomach virus, flu, coxsackie are all rampant. Last school year, none of that.

I send my kids with extra masks to change after lunch so they aren't wearing the same nasty one all day.

Exactly.

Furthermore, if masks didn't work to mitigate the spread of germs to some degree then doctors and nurses wouldn't be wearing them at all. I know that the times I've had surgery I appreciate the medical team being masked up instead of spewing their germs and spit all over me on the table while they work.

It's ridiculous to say, "masks don't work" because of course they do. Are they 100%? Absolutely not but it's ridiculous for anyone to argue that they offer no protection at all. There is a reason why they are standard protocol in the medical field, because they absolutely help to contain the spread of germs to some degree.

Then why do people who are wearing a mask care if Joe Schmoo next to them is not wearing one? Shouldn't their mask protect them regardless? You wouldn't be able to breath in anything through those homemade cotton masks right.

Good question, lets see if you get an answer Chat Icon

As it's been stated COUNTLESS times........... masks are not 100% but when BOTH people in close proximity to each other are wearing masks you're lessening the amount of germs being passed between the two. The viral load is not as great when two people are masked up over when just one or none are.

But how would you even know if someone had a mask on as hasn't it been stated here numerous times only MYSELF notices when people are masked?

You are masked and vaccinated. You should be fine. GIVE PEOPLE A CHOICE for themselves and their children.

Amazing how it is the ones who don't wear masks where told they don't have to are the problem. Ones who have not gotten the virus.

How about people who have gotten sick with masks on, some are even on this board?

I guess they didn't work so why would you attack people who don't wear them (YES there are many who never wore them when mandated, that was not myself) but not the ones who got sick wearing them?

It's been said COUNTLESS times masks are not 100% but there is NO doubt if we all ran around maskless for the last year transmission rates would have been higher. Nobody said masks were a guarantee you wouldn't get COVID.

Interesting as the states that dropped their mandates last year did not spike. They had no masks on and weren't getting sick.

Can I ask where do you think the spikes are coming from in TX. LA and FL right now? Do you think the spikes would have happened even with a mask mandate?

As it's been stated COUNTLESS times........... masks are not 100% but when BOTH people in close proximity to each other are wearing masks you're lessening the amount of germs being passed between the two. The viral load is not as great when two people are masked up over when just one or none are.

But how would you even know if someone had a mask on as hasn't it been stated here numerous times only MYSELF notices when people are masked?

You are masked and vaccinated. You should be fine. GIVE PEOPLE A CHOICE for themselves and their children.

Weren't you one of them that wore a mask all the time? That stated your husband wore one in the office all the time, double masked on places but STILL got covid?
I guess his mask just didn't work then?

It's been said COUNTLESS times masks are not 100% but there is NO doubt if we all ran around maskless for the last year transmission rates would have been higher. Nobody said masks were a guarantee you wouldn't get COVID.

Neither my DH or I EVER double masked, not even once. Either your note taking is off or you're making cr@p up as usual. Chat Icon

My bad then. Which makes it even worse then as obviously his mask did not work.

You are brain dead. Seriously.

Which means you KNOW the mask did not work OR your husband lied to you that he was wearing a mask around people.

Which is it since you keep claiming masks work?

Every comment you make further demonstrates that you're cognitively impaired. Poor thing, too bad you have zero self awareness.

Interesting as the states that dropped their mandates last year did not spike. They had no masks on and weren't getting sick.

Can I ask where do you think the spikes are coming from in TX. LA and FL right now? Do you think the spikes would have happened even with a mask mandate?

No mask mandates and no vaccines, no spikes. No masks, vaccines, speaks.

Are you saying that there are no current spikes in CoVid? Or are you implying that the vaccine is causing spikes in CoVid cases?

For myself, I’m an adult and can suck it up when required.

But my children….it’s terrible to expect them to be in a mask for 4-6 hours. Especially on a hot school bus. In a room with no air conditioning on hot days. I have a child with severe speech delay and this was a nightmare last year. The photos their teacher took, you can’t tell if your child is smiling or upset. It’s not right to have children sitting 3 feet apart at their desk in a mask. I can understand common areas but sitting by yourself is ridiculous.

These kids are losing social skills that are usually being taught now. My one child has never sat in a cafeteria and probably won’t this year. Sounds stupid to be upset, but this is all about social growth.
Learning to speak and engage with peers, how to read social cues, etc.

Plus the grossness that was on their masks at the end of a hot humid day was nauseating

I agree with all of this. I guess no one else does or admitting you agree with this means you are a right wing nut.

Re: Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?

Its a big deal because many people were vaccinated to return to normalcy, vaccinated their children for the chance of full in learning school with no masks. And now look? I can see why people are upset. I think the government and CDC messed up again. Every roll out or implementation during this pandemic has been poorly handled and miscommunicated. The masks lift should never have happened until they were more confident. Not pull a number out their asses that sounded good, wait for us to reach it and then say "whelp that's not working'.

People would have been upset about still wearing masks but it would not have been some freedom that was given to just be ripped away again. And this always happens right around school starting. Also Masks should not be political but both sides made it political, so lets stop acting like its only Republicans who made this political. The other side is doing the same and does not STFU about it as well.

Also the lack of empathy is outstanding across the board around here. Because something is NOT A BIG DEAL to you does not mean the same for others. We can play this game all day:

-Why is remote learning such a big deal?
-Why is getting vaccinated such a big deal when someone had Covid and is less likely to get it again?
-Why is living in LI such a big deal?
-Why is being a full time working mom such a big deal?
-Why is having a college degree such a big deal?

This exactly.
I have seen- on more than one occasion on Facebook for example- someone will post something about masks.
And on more than one occasion I have seen someone reply with "well I still wear mine because I don't want to look like a republican"

It's disturbing that mask wearing has turned into such a political issue actually.

How about wear your mask because you feel safer in it? Wear it because you feel it helps?
Don't wear it because you think NOT wearing it makes you look like the other party. And then openly admit that like it's a badge of honor to say that.

Jesus Christ.
And we wonder why this country is so divided.

Yes, yes, yes. It is TOTALLY political as much as people don't want to think it is. There is such a divide in this country that it is very sad.

Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?

Once I figured out how to wear it without fogging up my glasses, I could not care less. I also enjoy being able to hide from people at the supermarket!
