There was a study this week that said less than half of children with covid have a fever. Not saying they should go home for every headache but idk what they're supposed to do. My kid went to the nurse with a headache and stomach ache on day 3 and thankfully she was sent back to class. That's good they sent her back - in our school she wouldn't be able to return without a negative covid test and Dr clearance.

My son is having severe anxiety this year and complaining of stomachaches. He went to the nurse 2x with the first hour of school one day. She called me both times and truly believed it was just anxiety but she told me that if he came back again she had to send him home and we’d have to get a test. I told my son to only go if he was really sick otherwise he’d have to have a test. He’s already had one and just the fear of getting another was enough for him to stay in class
Yep! I thank God my DD isn't having that issue this year.
It's good that he's old enough to understand the reasoning that he can't run to the nurse or he'll need a test.
I'd be instructing my DD the same at this point.

I just want to say I agree they are absolutely insane if they want every kid with a headache to stay home
And get tested. That’s insanity
But... I personally witnessed on a friends FB page, someone commented on her post stating her young child had a fever and runny nose. She wasn’t going to bring her to the dr because she never would for those symtpoms. Plus if she did and she tested covid +, her older middle and HS aged kids As well as her and her husband would have to lose 2 weeks of school and work. Ignorance is bliss was her closing statement.
People are not doing what they should and are endangering everyone. For those who couldn’t understand the teachers resistance to going back in person - it’s Because people like that.
If people aren’t taking a fever as well as other symptoms as a possible reason to be tested (ya know bc it’ll be inconvenient to all in their household) how do they think a headache will warrant a drs visit.

A few weeks ago my daughter had a cough. No fever or other symptoms. We did a telehealth visit. They said no reason to come in for a test unless he gets a fever or bad symptoms but basically told us to quarantine for a few days until symptom free

I think this is probably happening a lot bc people don't want to be the cause of a news article and a school closing as dumb as it is. Dh had a student go home sick with a fever and the parent said they would be quaranteening for 14 days. I assume this is bc they don't want the kid to get tested and the fallout that goes with it. So if the kid actually does have covid, there's no cleaning or contract tracing bc of that choice.

i got clarification on my BOE meeting.
They dont have to get a covid test but see a dr and let them determine.
Its still bulllshitt because thats time away from work and copays that will have to be paid every time!! insanity!!

seriously my PED is so lax he will be like are they kidding me!!
We have to test. I spoke with someone from my peds office this weekend at a social function. She said that usually they will test based on two or more minor symptoms (stomach ache, headache) or one major symptom (cough, fever). They have been slammed since school started since all districts are requiring a Dr visit and a negative test.
The child in our school who tested positive over the weekend is participating in virtual learning this week and seems fine (we are unsure why he was tested - nobody is close friends with the family) so who knows how many kids have Covid right now.

Yes. I'm 39 weeks pregnant and I had some diarrhea few weeks ago. I called my Drs office and first thing they asked was if I had a fever or any other symptoms.

Omg. This reminds of being 36 weeks pregnant with a runny nose and having twins pressing on my lungs so being short of breath in March and them very concerned I had Covid.

My coworker who has a severe food allergy was unknowingly exposed to the food and got severe stomach cramps to the point of not being able to stand up. She went to urgent care hoping for an epi pen shot or something. The doctor did not even examine her before telling her she had Covid and forcing her to get a test. He said abdominal pain is a symptom. She was so upset. Luckily she felt better 24 hours later but it took a week to get the test results back. Obviously negative.

We just had to test my poor DS 2x in 6 days. First because his sister had a cold and we all just got tested and yesterday he choked on his lunch and threw up in school so i had to have him retested!!!

Both of my kids are terrified of “THE STICK”!!! Strep test. I had to crawl in the back of my car at the P lot to physically restrain him (you are not allowed to exit the vehicle) and it was awful. Flailing and screaming. They did a nasal and a tonsil / Oral one there. He was hysterical and I felt like an abusive monster.
PM peds was nice because he likes the decorations and that calmed him. But every time someone even glanced in his direction he cowered and whimpered no stick mommy no stick please. It was only 6 days after the first time. I had to restrain him again but it was on my lap so at least I got to hug him.
Now he’s playing and happy and driving me nuts. But we are awaiting his results.

My kids hate the flu test (my younger one the most) and the strep test so I am dreading as well. My younger one has bad allergies and he will be needing one soon I suppose - we had our first positive case in the school so I think the tolerance will be even lower (and it's pretty low already).

Exactly! They gave her nothing! Thankfully she was ok and will have an epi pen in future but she was so upset because she was adamant to doctor that she did not have any other Covid symptoms. Sometimes I feel like people WANT it to be Covid.

OMG how horrible. I'm so sorry!! I felt sick just reading that.
We sat our DC down last night and told them that it was absolutely critical that if they feel sick at all we need to keep them home. And if they go to school, unless they have a fever or feel like they are dying they are to under no circumstances go down to the nurse.
And if my ped were to insist on a covid test for only one symptom I would be finding a new ped that very day.

I’m really disgusted by this. Thank god your friend is ok, but that could’ve been fatal.
