Maui hotels
Hi all.
Planning a trip to Maui next year and I am looking into hotels. It will just be 2 adults. I never been to Hawaii..so this will be the first time for DH and I.
I would like your input as to your favorite Maui hotel.

Our Hawaii vacation has been cancelled twice this year, but we were staying at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel in Maui.

I'm supposed to be in Maui right now - damn Covid!!!
We usually stay at the Hyatt Regency in Kaanapali and should be there having a mai tai right now. It really depends on what side of the island you want to be on.
South Maui (Wailea area), the hotels are a little more high-end (Four Seasons, Fairmont, Grand Wailea (Waldorf Astoria). I don't love staying on that side of the island though. We love to be out and about on Maui, and I feel like it's a little out of the way for us. It's a great place if you want to just hang at the resort and golf and maybe hit a high end mall (Tiffany's, etc.)
West Maui (Kaanapali / Lahaina / Kapalua) has some beautiful resorts too (just not as high-end as the hotels in Wailea). You can't go wrong with any of the resorts on Kaanapali Beach. We've stayed at almost all of them: Sheraton, Westin, Hyatt, etc. There are also some condos you can rent. Further down in Kapalua, the Ritz Carlton is excellent - but again a little out of the way. Our first choice is always the Hyatt Regency, but if the Sheraton Black Rock comes up cheaper, we stay there.
No matter what though - you will need a car to get around on Maui.

We stayed at the outrigger right in Lahaina. We walked to everything. If you stay out by the Westin etc you need a car or cab to go anywhere.

For adults only the Andaz. For family the Grand Wailea. We also stayed at the hotel Hana Maui which I think has a new name. But it made the trip to Hana amazing. I would also take a day trip on Sail Triolgy to Lanai. I asked for my money back from the Four Seasons in Maui....
