I want to cash in change....
Where can I do this w/o paying too much? Or if I choose to sit here and roll all of it where do I get the rolls and do I just bring them to my bank?

Re: I want to cash in change....
Or you can get some wrappers from the bank (although they tend to be stingy ). Yes...you can spend hours rolling, then you write your account number on the wrapper and lug the nine hundred pounds of coins to the bank.
Or you can lug the loose coins to a coinstar machine in the supermarket, but I do not know how much they charge.
I belong to Teachers Federal Credit Union and they have a machine...maybe it pays to join.

Re: I want to cash in change....
we are probably going to open an account with td (we're thinking about a cd) so we can get change sorted there for free. if you don't have an account they charge a percentage to count and cash your change.
if you choose a gift card from the coinstar machine they don't charge you the fee.

Re: I want to cash in change....
I've gone to a TD bank and cashed change without an account, they had the change machine, I got the slip and cashed it at a teller.

Re: I want to cash in change....
I go to walmart or the dollar store and get wrappers and wrap them myself and take them to my bank and they cash them for free. I actually JUST did this today. And got $65

Re: I want to cash in change....
I am pretty sure TD charges a fee if you are not a customer.
I am a customer and they've started charging for everything else, but that was another thread of mine earlier this week.
I have seen the rolls at the Dollar Tree. They usually keep them in the aisle where they sell all the school supplies and stationary, on the bottom (you have to dig around sometimes cuz they could be hidden).

Do you belong to a credit union? There are some that have the machines and you can do it for free there.

Re: I want to cash in change....
Many CoinStar machines will give you printed GiftCards to certainplaces, like Amazon, Starbucks and other retailers and not charge the fee. The regular fee is like 9 cents a dollar.... So you get the full value of your change.. If you go to the Coinstar website, they will tell you what giftcards you can get from what location.

Re: I want to cash in change....
TD definitely charges a fee if you are not a customer. Some Capital One branches also have change sorters as well.

Re: I want to cash in change....
I think all banks and credit unions are now charging for this if you aren't a customer. I know my credit union charges as does TD bank. I don't recommend TD bank's machines anyway, and I have an account there. I was almost shorted a significant amount of money from one of their machines, more than once!
I use coinstar since its convenient. 9% is the charge. I would rather pay 9% than sit and roll coins.

Re: I want to cash in change....
It's really funny you posted this because I want to cash in my change and I looked around to see who has the best deals yesterday. So far it looks like TD Bank takes the least percentage at 6%. I called King Kullen and they take almost 10%. I'm going to look into bethpage credit union now since a PP mentioned they do this.

This is what happened to me. I knew approximately how much we had since it was all in a money counting jar. I had her open the machine, and half of the change was stuck in a pipe that leads to the coin return area.

TFCU charges 5% if you're not a member. I just cashed my change in yesterday and saw the sign.

This just seems to defeat the purpose of saving change to me. You save it just so someone else can have it anyway. It really is not that big of a deal to roll it. I just do it sitting in front of the TV. But to each his own.

This is what I do. I'd rather have my money turn into a GC to a place I normally shop for no fee (i.e. Amazon) than deal with finding ways to cash in change at a bank.

I think some supermarkets don't take a cut if you use the voucher to buy things at that store.
