I hope mine lasts for 10-15 years. We also spent a lot on it and that was my reasoning.

We bought a reasonably priced set- but I actually decided to look into making slipcovers. There is fabric that I love and it coordinates with the curtains.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have had my couch 11 years. It is a bit saggy, and also I am just tired of it. I felt like under 10 years was too soon--I don't know how long is reasonable though.
I would like to get a new one by the end of the year.

I hope that ours last at least 10-15 years. I feel like we spent $$$$ on them so I really hope that they give us our moneys worth. They are currently 5 years old. I still like them. I will say that I think leather couches hold up much better than fabric, microfiber or suede.

i say 10 years on average. My parents always give them their handme downs after about 7 years of usage and its in very good condition if not mint. IT usually lasts about 3-5 years with me because I am a bit careless.

Re: How long should a sofa last? How long do you keep your furniture?
i have a sofa from when we first moved in together - it's upstairs in our loft/den...it's alright - 4-5 years old i think...i don't think it will last too much longer but it's in the hangout room so i don't mind..
i think the couch i have downstairs will last longer since it doesn't get much use...

We had Ikea Sofas that lasted 8 years! They had washable covers and that seemed to hold them together better.

Our current couch and love seat are three years old and I'm ready to get rid of them both.
On the other hand, our office couch is hanging in there for 13+ years.
For those with long-lasting couches, what brands are they?

Re: How long should a sofa last? How long do you keep your furniture?
There are a lot of variables depending on use, household configuration, etc. Our living room sofa is about 7 years old and is in perfect condition - we rarely use it. On the other hand in the 7 years we have lived here we are on our 3rd sofa for the den. - yes that's right 3rd!
The first sofa we had in the den was white - a left over from my single days - add DH and white doesn't work so well. We replaced it with a lower end micro fiber. Along came DS and it was shot in few years. r . The current sofa is a hand me down from my Mom. She always buys quality. We have a slip cover on it and its holding up. When we redo the room in a year or two Ill replace it with a good quality sofa that will hopefully last a long time.

Our family room couches get the most use. They are 3 years old and have held up very well, so far. They are laz-e-boy.
I expect them to last 10 years. By then, my tastes will probably change so it may be time for new ones anyway.

We bought a 3 pc set from Jennifer Convertibles about 7-8 yrs ago. The chair still looks brand new, the loveseat is in mint condition and the sofa looks like we've had it for 15 years. Like a PP stated, it depends on how much use it gets. Everyone (incl DH and I) always sit on the sofa. My dad and my FIL are the only ones that have ever sat in the chair.

Re: How long should a sofa last? How long do you keep your furniture?
The original set we bought from Bobs probably 12 years years ago is still in use. The couches are in our playroom and the oversized chair is in DS room. It also lived with my SIL for 2 years. they still look great and are super comfy. Then we bought another set from Bobs and it didn't hold up too well. We kept it maybe 2-3 years and then my sister used it for a while. We've had our leather sectional for over 5 years and it still looks great. No plans of replacing it any time soon.
