Who buys the Christening outfit?
Just wondering.........does the Godmother buy the Christening outfit? My daughter is pregnant and we were just talking about this. Would the God mother buy the outfit? My daughter of course would want to chose the Christening outfit for her own baby.

Each Godmother purchased each christening outfit for my kids. Both times I went with the Godmother and we picked something we both liked.

i physically bought DD's outfit. it the godmothers (she has 2) want to pay for it, or part of it, fine. if not, that's fine too.
when i became godmother to my niece, i offered to buy the dress but the mother reused the dress from her older daughter. i bought her a gold cross instead

DH and I bought DD's christening gown.
We had it made from my wedding gown and it was costly...I didn't expect the godmother to purchase it at all (but I have heard that it is customary)
She bought her cross instead.

I bought both outfits for both DCs at first!
and then my mother insisted on paying for it! There was no arguing! 
I never asked or expected the GMs to do it! I was actually shocked when my friend asked if she could/should and I told her my mom already took care of it! I never heard of that tradition before she said something!

In my family the godmother usually buys the outfit.
My sister is DD's godmaother but she is only 15 so she wasnt going to buy, my mom was just in this case but my friend took me shopping and surprised me by buying the outfit for the baby

With DS, my sister (who is DS's godmother) paid for the outfit but I picked it out. With DD, I paid & picked it out.

Traditionally, the godmother does....but in our case, the one I wanted was super $$$$$ and my sister, who is DS godmother....I would never have asked to spend that kind of money. I split it with my mom instead.

My mother told me that it was the godmother who pays but originally she didnt offer and I wasnt going to ask. Then she brought it up however (and I am assuming by the $15 ebay listings that I was showed) the godfather (her husband) had a certain price requirement. then she told me to pick out what I wanted. Which I did (keeping it on the low end) and they wound up not reimbursing me anyway.  I dont know...this whole traditional pay thing boggled my mind regarding weddings and boggles my mind with this too.
