the big guy wasn't real?

My son is going into 6th grade and he's asked me a lot. I always say, you don't believe, you don't receive. But I'm still trying to keep the magic for his little sister.

I feel like he should know the truth but HOW does one start this conversation?

I think you just tell him the truth when he asks. At this point, he must know Santa's not real, but just wants confirmation. But, you tell him that he needs to help to keep the magic for his younger sister. Honesty is the best policy, IMO.

Luckily I didn't have to. It was just kind of understood.
One year she was making a list for Santa the next year she said to me- here is my list, I put down the links to it so you can find it easier online.
I was like- OK. And just went with it.
And we never spoke about it.
I'm glad too because I was dreading that chat.

Ugh - I dreaded this. DD came to me one day and said she didn't believe that he was real. Kids in school told her (which I think sucks, but it is what it is - LOL). I tried to re-convince her for a short time, but she knew. I didn't make a big deal out of it - just said it's fine to believe or to not believe whatever she wants. I told her I still believe in him and she said: you mean to tell me - you're ok with an old man breaking into the house every year?!. LOL. She's 10 by the way.

I am sure he knows by now and I would ask what he thinks. Just tell him not to spoil it for his sister.

My oldest is in their 20's and still hasn't asked so I always say you probably still believe Chat Icon Chat Icon

My DD is 10 and I don’t think she believes anymore….she started questioning it last year when she asked how Santa gets into the house when we have no fireplace. LOL. And I also kinda slipped last year because we got her an iPad and she knew it came from me and my DH and all her “Santa” presents were wrapped in the same paper and she was confused. I know she doesn’t believe in the tooth fairy or Easter Bunny anymore. I think we’re done with Santa.

If they are asking, just tell them. You can also look up the origin of Santa and explain where it comes from and what it means

I never had to. I used to joke that when you stop believing you get underwear. They stopped believing by 5th grade, but never told me and LET me keep the magic going. In h.s, they laughed about it and said they stopped believing in 5th grade, but never told me. I knew they knew the truth too. But there is something so magical about not having the conversation, too. Unless he is they type of kid to insist he is real to his friends, then I would have the real conversation and tell him to keep the magic alive for his sister. It not something worth getting teased over.
