Where are all the Disney people at?

I’ve heard so many bad reviews of Disney lately, so we have no plans to go anytime soon. We just went to Universal for the first time last month and it was amazing. So much easier to plan than Disney. Maybe that would be an option for you?

I agree and we did Universal in November - it was sooo easy! We stayed at a premier hotel for the express passes and it was worth every penny.

we were going to book to go in early november year because I have vacation days through the DOE that I can use any time. Was planning to go on an off-week, a week or two before thanksgiving, but we decided we are going to wait one additional year and let the kinks work themself out more. We've been to 7 or 8 times now, so we know the ins and outs for sure, but this whole genie+ thing has me iffy.

I also am still unsure about whether or not we will stay on property now, given they don't do the meal plan or the luggage tags/magical express to the hotels anymore. We are debating renting a condo off-property for cheaper, getting a rental car, and doing grocery shopping/making breakfast and lunches to bring to the park with us to keep costs down. We could get a 2 bedroom with LR and kitchen for a fraction of the price, and it might make some of the extras more worth it that way.

I just can't justify staying on property when we've basically lost every benefit to doing that. Being able to book fast passes 60-90 days in advance was awesome, vs only 30 days off property. But now that everyone has an equal shot and there's no on-property incentives, I see no desire to spend that money!

The biggest benefit to staying on site is the convenience of getting to the MK. We have stayed off site before, and it's a pain. Total pain. At least Disney transportation when staying on site, drops you off at the Magic Kingdom. When you stay off site, you have to park at the Transportation and Ticket center lot. Take a tram to the actual transportation and ticket center (or walk if you are close enough). Then board the boat or the monorail to get to the MK. This process is awful and even moreso if you stay until close to park closing. It took us 3 hours to get to our car one year. So I don't advise that at all! Time is money though IMO. I don't want to have to leave my off site hotel 2 hours early in the morning just to get there for rope drop. But, I'm also in the camp that you are paying $$$, I want to be there when they open. Also, you do get the perk of early entry from staying on site still.

You can take the Sunshine Flyer from the airport. They are basically Magical Express, with a cost. We just do Uber or Lyft since it's faster. I get that it's cheaper to stay off site, it always has been. But, the inconvenience isn't really worth it for us.

Same for us! Water taxi, express passes, Citywalk, both parks… everything was right there. Only made reservations for dinners at Citywalk.

Re: Where are all the Disney people at?

We were relatively big Disney people. We went every 1-2 years. In 2018 I ended up there twice.

I echo what Dancin said. We are over it for now based on the trip reports. I still lightly follow disboards and enough hardcore fans are disillusioned that I wonder if Disney will see the impact after the 50th anniversary and pent up pandemic related demand subsides. They've just taken away too many parts of the "magic" for us.

The biggest hit for us is the Genie plus bullsh!t. We are not early risers and we always liked getting our 3 free FPs for roughly 10-1 ish. We would get there around 9-9:30, do one or two rides with relatively short lines, do our FPs, afternoon break, then come back at night with extra FPs and lower crowds. We never waited on line more than 20-30 minutes, usually less, and always had a great time. It always felt easy and leisurely. Now it's a crappier service WITH a cost. No thank you. We are finished for now which is fine because DS is getting older anyway. We love Universal too and will stick to them for our Florida theme park fix.

Crowds aren't only about the length of lines. Staff and service reductions can make a day feel more crowded than attendance indicates based on how guests are distributed.

Anyone planning on staying offsite should just double check rental car prices before they commit to that plan. They are still quite high in many places. I'm not saying don't do it. Just get the big picture. If you can commit to rope dropping I don't think parking at MK is that big of a deal. When DS was younger we did RD and generally didn't need the tram. But I agree the tram is a PITA if you end up really needing it.

To each their own. Everyone has their illogical splurges. But we're out for now. I want to head out west to one of the national parks and I'm also tentatively planning Europe. Depending on the airfare we get the prices are comparable to Disney.

I agree with you and Dancin as well.

I've been going to Disney since 1983, it's definitely changed A LOT over the years. We were last there in early December 2018 and even then, the crowds were outrageous. It was so bad that it felt like you couldn't enjoy anything which is very disappointing when you spend thousands and thousands of dollars to be there.

We were planning on heading there this fall but between the crowds, all of the changes, the loss of FP and other perks, the increased prices etc it's just not worth it. Even my hardcore Disney friends feel the same and those that have been in the last year or so have been so disappointed with everything.

We're planning a Pacific Northwest trip this summer and Italy next year for our 25th wedding anniversary. I feel that these trips (while expensive) will be comprobable in price to Disney at this point however, they will be such better and more relaxing vacations. I love Disney and have fond memories but I don't like the direction they've taken since the pandemic.

Haven't been to Disney in forever but one of my friends just came back with their 2 young children and said they probably will not be going back anytime soon.
Sounds like it has changed so much and turning many people off and the amount of money that is being spent is just horrendous.
So sad as it used to be so much fun. My husband has been there about 30 times or more and about 10 for myself and it has changed so much that it is not a vacation anymore and cost so much.

I know some of you are true Disney fans. I wanted to take my kids again this fall but I'm seeing some really negative reviews. What are you hearing on the Disney fan blogs/boards?

The people who make money off their Disney Blog will NEVER say anything bad about them.

That said . . . the post-pandemic Disney is nothing like pre-pandemic Disney.

Changes:

No magical express transportation to/from airport. You now have to pay in addition to your Disney reservations. For our family this is a $100 upcharge.

No free magic bands. Not a big deal to us, we have plenty. But a potential $20+ per person upcharge.

These two changes irk the crap out of me. The magic express was such an awesome perk. I also find it super annoying to pay for magic bands! WTF!!! I didn't know that. I almost wish we never went pre-pandemic so the changes weren't so offensive!

Thanks to everyone for all the info!

I agree with everyone above. We were hard core Disney fans, went pretty much every year and it definitely has changed. They took away too much of the magic, raised the prices and for me the expense is no longer worth the experience.

I have a friend who is hard core Disney...they go 3-4x a year minimum, AP, DVC the whole shebang and she recently went and said it will likely be her last visit in a while.

The parks are starting to look run down, customer service has declined, cost has gone up, perks taken away. As a matter of fact she
said when she was there a little kid got sick waiting on line for one of the rides and in the past, Disney had cast members that would take care of that stuff ASAP..part of the magic. She said she kept asking the cast members next to the ride who was going to clean that and no one cared and even after she did the ride no one had cleaned it. So gross.

Last year we went to Universal, stood on their property and the kids had an amazing time. They didn't even want to visit Disney. It was much much cheaper and the transportation to the park was so quick, the parks were fun and crowds manageable.

Really? I've never had that experience but we always get there at opening so idk. My sister owns a place off property and before kids we would never stay on. It's more convenient with kids for sure, but at this point i just don't see the reason to spend thousands just bec you avoid the 10 min monorail trip from the ticket & transportation center. We went over NYE one time too, and honestly didn't find it to be bad at all!

You probably have never had that experience if you arrived right at opening, since it's definitely longer than a 10 minute process on a typical day. The tram alone just to the Transportation and Ticket Center (where you then wait in the line for the monorail or boat) can be upwards of 20 minutes depending on how long you have to wait for one. Then you have to wait in the other lines to board either the monorail to the park or the boat to the park, which has been bad post pandemic. Namely the Monorail. Some people don't mind. But definitely not a fan of all that hoopla for our family.
