I am in a wedding party and asked to do the shower invites. I asked for the registry info and was given a link to wedding website where all they asked for was cash for honeymoon or house. I had to confirm that this was indeed all they are asking for because it did seem tacky to me too...and it was the correct info. No gifts. I felt so uncomfortable putting that link on the invites, but i had no choice. Guess it is trend right now.

Honestly it's easier for the guests too. Cash is easiest. No need to worry about ordering or buying anything, wrapping it etc

Do they just not open gifts at the shower though?

God I hope so.
That's the WORST-sitting there for hours.

I think one pandemic scenario that should stay are virtual showers. I’ll send you whatever you want, just don’t make me sit there and watch you open it.

Wedding Invitation

I'm young and I hate honeymoon funds that are strictly money-based. I have contributed many times to honeymoon EXCURSIONS, but I despise the "give me straight up cash" registries. In my opinion, you should be buying a physical thing, like an excursion, nice bottle of wine, fancy dinner at a restaurant where they are staying, etc. etc. I just personally think it is super tacky to ask for money in categories like "contribute to my airfare", "pay down my hotel bill", or something like that. Seems very impersonal.

To answer the other question, I have gotten alot of website based wedding invites, mostly due to covid. Because alot of people's weddings were cancelled and rescheduled, it was too pricey for friends to buy paper invites for a wedding that had the potential of being cancelled again. I don't think much of it anymore, but I still prefer a paper invite. Something about it staring back at me on the fridge helps me remember, lol

ETA: To the person who said they take a cut... honeyfund does and a few others, but according to my friends, Zola.com does not take a cut! That is why everyone has zola registries lately

I got two invites in the last two years from couples in their 20's that did the website thing. I believe its the new way to do things and to be honest its smart. Invitations are expensive.

I did a honeymoon fund long with regular registry. Mine was just activities though. I dont find it tacky when people are smart in saving money. Lots of things at weddings that NYers, or even all of the US, do are considered tacky and low class in other countries.

What is the difference though of cutting a check for a wedding gift?

If it was actually on zoom or something nobody would know or care if you walked away. I keep my camera disabled anyway
But I think she meant- tell me what you want and I'll gladly send it and leave my weekend alone.

Chat Icon Yes! I could pop on and say “congrats! You look beautiful! Gotta run!” And be done.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good party and to eat like a pig and drink like a fish, but I prefer to do it in a setting that doesn’t require me to stare at toasters and onesies.

I hate them.
I feel trapped when there. It's probably my social anxiety.
I just feel like I want to be left alone on the weekends to decompress after working all week.

Pretty much.
I just am not really a social person
I have my routines and I like to relax at home a lot or do things with my little family.... I don't like having to be "on" in social settings.
Maybe when I was younger, but now that I'm old, I'm over all that.

Re: Wedding Invitation

I don't care what people register for or how they send their invitation. I figure it's a sign of changing times. I'll give you the usual amount I give based on how close we are whether you choose to use my gift money to buy commemorative Elvis plates, invest in crypto currency, join a cult, name a galaxy, get a hairless cat, adopt an incontinent hyena, or buy crack with it. Idgaf what you do. It's yours now. Go wild.

I'm certainly not going to give more than I usually do just because you want to go skydiving in Bali or riding lions and this is the price tag for that excursion. But use my gift however tf you want. And if part of my gift is taken by the honeymoon registry site for fees that's on you. I could easily just give you cash or check too so you can bypass those fees and buy what you want yourself. But it's your day and your way. I'll do whatever you want. But I won't go over my normal gift budget just so you can scale Mount Everest.

We are going to a wedding in April that had mailed Invites and website rsvp which also had their registry. It included the usual stuff and a honeymoon fund.
The honeymoon fund has been a thing for a while. Especially for couples who already live together or have a house already etc.

I don’t see anything wrong with it. It saves paper and time and it’s nice to put your $$ to something they actually want. For the wedding in April, we’re going to give them $$ as usual.

I just don't get it though as you generally give a check or cash at a wedding.
I don't know anyone who brings a physical gift for the household to a wedding.
Registries are generally used for showers.
So if I write you a $300 check ,use that towards your honeymoon. No need to register for your honeymoon.

I Will preface and say I did not read all the responses but actually I think everywhere outside of the tri-state area usually does not give cash and brings an actual gift to the wedding so I can see the whole honeymoon registry thing. My cousin who loves in Florida had it (she got married years ago) but we just gave cash cause we Wouldn’t have brought an actual gift anyway.

Yeah - weddings out of state, generally people give gifts - and typically less overall (gift or money) than what's given in NY. They also do all of the eating stuff and then people leave rather quickly, it's odd!

I like the paper invite myself. I feel like it sets the tone for the wedding.

I recently sent ours out and they're sooo pretty, handmade paper, letterpress and gold leafed with a ribbon and wax seal.... and they made me happy, even if everyone throws them out, I will keep it and I totally did a Pinterest photoshoot with them. I know I like getting something pretty in the mail. I got 2 email wedding invites and i totally forgot to RSVP because I didn't have the reminder of the card sitting on my counter for 2 months... LOL
