It sucks!

I am really wondering what people feel the US President can really do that could actively affect the global energy markets?
How much can the US draw down of their strategic reserves?
The IEA is releasing reserves and that is only the 4th time since the oil crisis in the 70's. Globally, crude, brent, oil and gas has jumped.

I would like to understand this also.

Everyone blames the president all the time how is it the presidents fault??!!
I really need and intelligent answer besides that you dislike the current president and he is incompetent.

Because with other past presidents I may have not liked them but I also just didn’t blindly blame them for every single problem!!

I think they want him to tap more of our resources here in the U.S. and the first thing he did was close the building of the pipeline.

The building of the Keystone EX was to bring Canadian Tar sands to Mexico of refinery for sale to Asia. It was not going to benefit the US at all. Additionally, the Keystone is still operational.
After 4/2022, the 2 years is up with the deal with OPEC to lower production so that will help in increasing supply globally.
Do you all know how much oil the US imports from Russia?

https://en.as.com/en/2022/02/16/latest_news/1645020978_604758.html

In spring 2021 imports of Russian oil to the United States in their highest level in a decade, become the second-largest exporter of oil to the US later that year.

I think it's still only about 5-7% of it crude products from Russia. I believe the US imports most of it's products from Canada.
Russia exports about 60% to Europe and 20% to China.
This is according to EIA

I think the part you are referring to is badly worded in your argument....Russia uses its vast natural supplies of crude oil as a major export market and one which has grown in recent years. In spring 2021 imports of Russian oil to the United States in their highest level in a decade, become the second-largest exporter of oil to the US later that year. I think it's referring to two different figure - barrel for barrel import of Russian oil year over year and then Russia being second to the US in the country with the highest oil production which was second to the US.
But, I have looked for articles to support your claim that we import most of our oil from Russia. Please post your research. i don't mind being wrong at all.

I’d kill to pay $4 a gallon. I paid $10 a gallon the other day. Guess that’s Biden’s fault, too.

But Germany doesn't have a huge untapped source of oil. That's the difference.

Hopefully high gas prices will force us all the electric car route though.

Yeah, but gas prices have still gone up regardless. With Nord stream, especially, it’s a different situation here, and I get that. But the electricity prices are insane here because Germany went to green power too soon. They shut down nuclear too soon without a plan even with the plentiful wind turbines.

Electric cars are a bit cheaper, I think, here. I’ll probably be buying a new car in a year or so, and I’ll probably get a gas car for the simple reason that I have no where to charge it. They have charging stations, but parking is always difficult. I’ll wait until my 18 year old car dies first. It only has about 80,000 miles on it. ETA: they really check emissions on cars here during inspections, so I’m OK regarding climate change for now. You get a special sticker for city driving.

The US can go electric, but they need to make sure the infrastructure is there.

You are not wrong. Russian oil imports are single digit for sure.

The source within the article she posted is from Bloomberg and it just shows the number of barrels from Russia increasing and exceeding what we got from Mexico last year. It doesn't give context or percentages.

The article goes on to clarify this a little, stating that it's still a small fraction of what we import and that we get five times more oil from Canada.

All should be stopped from Russia no matter the amount. If we have the opportunity to get from elsewhere or ourselves, THAT should be looked into. Wasn't that pipeline coming from Canada?

Which one? There are lots of pipelines coming from Canada in to the US that are operational.

The US companies pretty much halted imports of oil from Russia. Shell was the last hold out and overnight they succumbed to the pressure and will cease importing from Russia.

People should be questioning and a bit curious as to why the gas companies are hiking up prices so aggressively.
They had record earnings
They are doing 38bn in stock buybacks.
They are using the current crisis is Ukraine to exploit the US consumer.
I think they are doing this because come April 2022, OPEC will be producing more and Big Oil won't be able to price gouge.
Russia only accounts for about 7% of the global supply of crude.

No the President does not “set gas prices” but of course the government policies and resulting economic climate affects this. Yes I understand that inflation is a global issue. But I also understand that although many people despise it, the fact is that the US is a global superpower if not possibly the most powerful countey and our actions DO affect the world.

It is really extremely hypocritical when people say Biden (or rather his administration since he is a puppet who has zero clue about anything during the few hours he is awake) has nothing to do with inflation. For 4 years I listened to the complainers whine that everything - every little tiny thing - was Trump’s fault. Covid? Trump’s fault. Climate change? Trump’s fault. Debt? Trump’s fault. Bad breakfast sandwich? Trump’s fault. Broke a nail? Trump’s fault. Traffic? Trump’s fault. In fact people STILL blame him for things. It is truly an obsession.

So you are basically saying cause he is not taping into our reserves it’s his fault!

FTR I have never once blamed trump for every little thing but I know people do and they are just as wrong!!

Actually they recently responded to this. The big take away….they don’t want to invest in it just to have the pipeline shut down again. Can’t blame them.

I have not heard one good reason they give for this other than to push their green new deal agenda. Meanwhile Americans are being pushed to their limits at being able to afford to even live. But who cares about Americans, when we need to save Ukraine?

And yet when Biden stands up at SOTU and says the opposite of everything the Democrats have professed the last few years, when he says all the things Trump was in favor of, people stand and clap and never call him out on his complete and utter BS.

So yeah. I do blame the Biden administration for gas prices.

Have you seen gas prices?

The Federal Government and the State could suspend taxes on gas until it is under control but of course they won't do that.

Oh and someone mentioned in an earlier post that Bush had the highest gas prices.....it was actually in 2008 under Obama.

Obama didn’t become president until 2009.
