Re: how many of you have gotten the booster shot

DH and I got the booster a month ago. We didn't have antibodies checked. Lots of Ds's friends, age 16, are getting their booster. DS hasn't yet.

I got my booster. I did not check antibodies. I figured it can't hurt so may as well. "Santa" can't go down this time of year and I know way too many people getting Covid now.

ETA: I have no intentions of checking my antibodies. I am just going to treat this like the flu shot.

100% agree with all of this.

What I don't like is that there doesn't seem to be any consistency with when or why you should get the booster. Like, if they said from the beginning "This is like the flu shot. You begin with 2 doses and then after that you need to get one dose per year (or every 6 months, or whatever)", then I would be OK with the booster.

At the beginning, the powers that be implied that you get your 2 does and you're done. It keeps you from getting Covid and from spreading it.

But, then they started saying that the elderly and immunocompromised people need to get a booster. They didn't say when (after 2 months, 6 months, whatever). Now they're saying everyone should get a booster.

So, what does that mean? Am I done after the one booster? Or do I need another one next year? I feel like no one knows and they're basically doing clinical trials on all of us!

I got my shot in February, so my NYS app says that it expires in February 2022. I actually want to wait until then to get my booster just to see if the app says that it is expired or not.

No they are saying you will need another booster already.

I did. I didn’t check antibodies. The vaccine isn’t going to make me grow a third arm, I don’t really care what my antibody levels are.

When are you suppose to get the boosters? Is it 6 months after moderna/Pfizer, 3 months if you had J&J?

I believe 2 months after J & J and yes 6 months for Pfizer/Moderna.

Thanks. One more question, if you get the J&J, then get the booster are you good for 6 months after your booster? or are they still sorting that out?

I think that’s the expectation, at least 6 months. I got J&J initially and got the Moderna booster. Research is showing Moderna is more effective after J&J than Pfizer.

I'm trying to get it, but it is hard to find appointments near me. My DH & all of my other family members have gotten it. Nobody had antibodies checked.

Re: how many of you have gotten the booster shot

Got my booster as soon as I hit my 6 month anniversary of my 2nd dose- which was mid/end of October (Pfizer).

I did get my antibodies test sometime in August or September but only because I was contemplating a trip (plane) so was curious if I still had antibodies (I did but they werent a high number).

The Covid app can be updated after its expired- you can always delete the app and re-install it and once you upload the CDC card w the vax dates, the app should automatically update w/ the new date (I think mine is 4/10/22 per the NYS app).

I do think it’s important to get your antibodies checked before getting the booster cause you may not even need it.

…..well you might need it to work, go to school, attend events, travel, etc…. Depends on which science you want to follow Chat Icon

They never said it would be a 2 series shot. They initially said it was good for 3 months and then 6 months. They now say everyone should get a booster at 6 months. Many childhood vaccinations require a 4 series shot over the course of years. They have the ability to space out the vaccinations since those diseases are running rampant.

Try the NYS sites. Friend just get Pfizer yesterday in Stony Brook. She booked it the day before. She said as she was booking it, more time slots would open up. The pharmacies were booked through next week.

My father is the only person I know that had his antibodies checked and while he still had a lot, he got his booster. No side effects from the booster for him. Thank God.

Thanks- I'm in Westchester & I did get an appt at one of the state sites near me for next week- I can't remember if it was booked last time I looked or if I only looked at the closer one.
I'm just hoping I don't have too much of a set back before Christmas. I have cookies to bake,! lol.

FYI- Costco & Sam's Club pharmacies are open to non-members and seem to have a lot of openings _ I just wasn't sure if I should mix types & the one near me only had 1.

I plan on treating this like a flu shot too. Will get it every 6 months or every year. Whatever my Dr recommends.

Re: how many of you have gotten the booster shot

I’ll Start with I am not anti - vax, I’m also not anti booster. I believe in all of it.
With that said, I now know of 3 people , boosted , who have covid. 2 are clients. 1 is a friend. They are PISSED (rightfully so) but thankfully, symptoms are mild - which is what we hope for.

I say this because I think it’s necessary because so many people think vaccinated = safe from covid. And that’s not the case. And they poo poo those who aren’t ready to get vaccinated or don’t believe in it.

We are susceptible. Vaccinated “should” keep us alive. That’s the difference

And that is why I think mandates are ridiculous. You are protecting yourself with this vaccine. And that's great. Everyone should have that opportunity. But there is no reason to mandate something that protects ONLY you.
That's like mandating a colonoscopy

I heard them talking about a person in the doctor's office who came up positive who was triple vaxxed as they called it. I sat there waiting for my test just shaking my head.
Now Hochul is looking to mandate that fully vaccinated is ONLY with 3 vaccines. Chat Icon

Like threads never ever go off topic.
I guess that's only ok on threads that are not about the precious booster.
It's still a free country though...for now...so people will continue to post whatever they want on any topic....sacred or not.

Exactly. All of this is ridiculous and this just shows how many people are following the crowd even though they don’t even know if this will all work. It seems it is not since people who have gotten THREE shots have come up positive.
