Omicron - just in time for the holidays
Ugh. A new variant that is vaccine resistant. Hoping it isn’t as bad as they are preparing for (but don’t worry - in 100 days they will have the vaccine adjusted for it).

I feel the same. I find the announcement “timely” though to second guess holidays and convince more people to vaccinate their kids.

supposedly Africa found this variant in July. Now all of a sudden its an issue, after Africa came out and said that they had the lowest rate of cases along with only 9% vax. oh and dont forget the Maxwell case is just starting too.

Of course - but the shot doesn’t do anything for it so we will all need another one anyway…
Yesterday Fauci said he felt Biden acted too quickly to restrict travel. Today he is concerned.
I just can’t anymore… over 90% of adults in NY are vaccinated. And Hochul is urging people to get vaccinated ahead of this vaccine resistant variant. Things have made no sense in awhile but this is really out there.

I agree, Just done. New BS every day. ER closes due to non fax employees but the people they bring in don't need a vax how does that even make sense??? All a power play screwing with us!!!

I can't live like this anymore. If i croak so be it. We stayed inside for months, got the vax, i got it anyway. And my husband who is not vaccinated never got sick. But he can't go to a damm play with us at Theater Three because he is not vaccinated. And I won't be getting the booster...

Sad right? It all makes no sense.
To watch the balloons being blow up, you needed to prove you were vaccinated. Watching the parade you didn’t.

I am not so worried. The UK and the Netherlands (they have a lot of people, usually Afrikaaners travelling from SA) have a special protocol in place for those travelling from SA. We started it here, too, but there is a small amount of people who also often travel to Namibia, Some things have been upped to 2G+ (vaccinated and recovered plus a test) here.
If anything, I am more concerned for that part of the world because the healthcare is not the best.

You haven't had Covid. There is nothing to tell.
When someone tests positive, they check the genome sequence. That is how they discover new variants.
In the US they typically don’t use the tests to differentiate which variant is which. They test a few but when Delta started dbecoming prevalent - they assumed it was Delta.
I am not worried about getting sick with this variant - I’ve read that unvaccinated folks are just tired, achy with a slight cough. I am worried about what type of restrictions, mandates and lockdowns this will lead to in advance of the midterm elections. The messaging and fear that is created for something pretty minor overall from what I’ve read. Our Governor declared a state of emergency for this variant - which supposedly isn’t here yet (I’m sure they will announce tomorrow that they found it).

The US is doing sequencing. They don’t sequence every sample. Let’s say they sequence 1000 samples and 900 come back as delta, they extrapolate that to say 90% of cases in that region are caused by delta.

I’m not concerned about omicron yet. There just isn’t enough data to say if this is more infectious or more virulent. They also don’t know if it will outcompete delta. We probably won’t know this for a few weeks.

Agreed. Not scared of the virus but what they would mandate for us.
