Booster question - no judgement please

I got Pfizer vaccine back in Feb/March and going to schedule my booster. I know it's not the full dose of Moderna they are giving, but wondering if it's worth going with Moderna this time bc it's better against Delta or stick with Pfizer.
Also, I got my flu shot and DTAP a week ago. Pharmacist said a week after getting the flu shot is fine, but wondering if I should wait another week.

Any advise is helpful. THanks!

Re: Booster question - no judgement please

I asked a few doctor friends the first question and they said that while the results show slightly more efficacy with Moderna it's not significant enough to stress over with regards to one or the other. They said get either one and continue to wash up, sanitize and other common sense precautions and it should be fine. I'm getting Pfizer #3 today.

Not sure about the second question, sorry! But I've heard conflicting things about that too.

Re: Booster question - no judgement please

I would wait another week, but I like to space out the vaccines a little. Secondly, isnt the booster the same as the two dose shot but it’s just one? If so then I would go with Moderna if it’s showing to be better at protection than Pfizer.

I got a text that I am eligible for a booster. I got J&J in April. Not going to do that again. I will get pfizer or moderna before by vaccine expires if they still have all of these ridiculous rules in place.

ETA: I am under 65 and have no health conditions so I think everyone is eligible now.

They are available to those who had underlying conditions as well as long as it's been 6 mos since your last vaccine but honestly, they didn't check anything (even my id, insurance or the form they told me I had to fill out).

I got my third since I have asthma and stuck with Pfizer.

My allergist said that I should space everything at least a week apart (flu, Covid, allergy shots)

Re: Booster question - no judgement please

I did get a text saying I am eligible for the booster ( I do NOT have any underlying conditions) so I think it is open to everyone who qualifies.
However, I will NOT be getting the booster.

I would space it out a little longer JMO.

For those who got J&J, everyone is eligible due to the lower efficacy. For Moderna and Pfizer, it's just the over 65/immunocompromised.

DH got J&J back in March, he just got a booster of Moderna. The Moderna booster is a smaller dose than the original Moderna, but he chose it because the efficacy has been higher than the others. If he couldn't get that one, he was going to get Pfizer.

Re: Booster question - no judgement please

DH called our doctor to make an appointment for the booster because of an underlying condition, and they also offered it for me (I don't have underlying conditions). We are going in a week and we asked if it was possible to have the flu shot at the same time, and we were told it was fine. Now I'm wondering. We both had Moderna.

On the NYC commercials they say it's fine so I am sure some medical professionals are ok with it.

My allergist won't let me get an allergy shot along with the flu shot and I've been getting allergy shots and flu shots for awhile with no reactions so she may be more conservative in her views.

It's also available for those who work in a high risk environment, ex. schools, medical facilities, etc.

And of course immunocompromised.

Re: Booster question - no judgement please

For those that got J&J and are now looking to get a Pfizer or Moderna booster instead of another J&J…may I ask why? Is it because the effectiveness percentage is higher and if so, why did you then originally choose J&J? Just curious because I am probably being forced to get a shot and am leaning towards J&J.

So I am trying to sign up for a flu shot at CVS as we speak, and their website says “The CDC has determined that it’s safe to take the flu and COVID vaccine at the same time.” You can actually book them together on the CVS site.

Side note, but I’m very frustrated that my CVSs aren’t doing walk-in flu shots. They are saying it’s because they are prioritizing covid boosters. I personally think I need a flu shot more than a third covid shot but whatever, I won’t get into that. And the available appointments are terrible times for anyone who works. UGH!

I had a horrible reaction to J&J so I will never get it again. I originally got J&J because I already had covid and did not care about the efficacy, I was only getting it so that I didn't have to quarantine when returning from international travel.

Really? I literally just walked into CVS and got a flu shot a half an hour ago. No appointment.

To the OP:

From what I am hearing from physicians I work with is that the coverage of Moderna with Delta is not that significant. Most of the docs I work with have all gotten Pfizer booster. So, with that being said, I don't think it matters which one you get.

My mother did both her flu shot and the covid booster together. She was definitely down and out for a full day afterwards but she was fine after that. I personally would prefer to space them out. Some docs will make the argument it increases the strength in your immune system to have them together. I would say do whatever you personal preference is. I think a week is fine.

I've heard a mix - some people feel horrible and some feel ok. So far I just feel like I have the same foggy head I had the first two times. Unfortunately DH isn't going to be home tonight so I have to hold it together to get the kids where they need to be.

The pharmacist told my mother in law to wait two weeks between flu shot and Covid booster. But her doctor said you can get them the same time. Seems like there is tons of conflicting info. Personally, I’d wait two weeks just in case there is a reaction you know which one it is from.

My husband got a notice that he qualified for a booster. His doctor however said he was going to run an antibody test first to see if he truly needs it. His antibodies were still very high so he is not getting it

I’m wondering if the effects are for people who still have antibodies from their first round of doses. Similar to people feeling worse when they got the vaccine after having Covid.

Booster question - no judgement please

I heard from many friends and doctors to wait 2 weeks for the booster after the flu shot. I don't think it's anything official, but they said that if you wait, if you have any side effects they will know which shot it was from. Makes sense.

Personally I would get a booster (if I was getting one) with the original shot I got. Unless the ingredients are exactly the same in all the boosters, I don't understand how they can say to take any one.

Nope I am out of state but super populated area, not like in the sticks or something lol. I tried Walgreens before and same thing! Must be a local thing. I’ll have to try a grocery store, good idea!

Booster question - no judgement please

I got my booster and choose Pfizer. I contemplated Moderna, but many people I knew who originally got Moderna had negative side effects and I didn’t want to deal with that if I’m honest. After my booster, I felt a little fatigued and light headed the next day, but nothing that stopped me from doing my normal activities. I took something for my head and carried on like normal. Even went zip lining with my son.
