Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I am 40. There. I said it. But I honestly don’t feel it and don’t look it (maybe 35ish haha)! Where do y’all shop that’s flattering and contemporary? I never truly cared about fashion so much but I know I’m getting called back into the city soon and I want to look good!

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I get a lot of stuff from Costco and Macy’s. I used to shop at Lord and Taylor. Now I buy stuff on line from Amazon and Lands End. I also like Uniqlo. They have cool shirts that are really comfortable.

I will say I still get hit on even with my husband standing near me. I am overweight and over 40. But my husband tells me I still have it. I got hit on at Trader Joe’s on Saturday. So I don’t think it is a matter or age, or dressing a certain way. My mom is over 70 and she still gets hit on too. She is also married to my dad.

I am over 40 and I refuse to throw in the towel. LOL

I like a lot of the clothes from Inc in Macys and Bloomingdales. I like Express if I can fit my mom boobs in to the clothes. I like Lucky Brand. If I want some fun stylish pieces, I actually like Target too.

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I don’t think I dress my age as much as I dress for my body type. Though even if I was a size 0, at 44 I wouldn’t be in a crop top lol
jeans & tshirt or a nice top or a dress. That’s my entire wardrobe besides leggings and tshirt and sweatshirt over it.

I recently tried on high waisted jeans because let’s face it, that’s all that’s out there and they made me look like an old lady. Absolutely never with those jeans. I legit looked 20 lbs heavier and highlighted my belly. Horrific. I have to hope my mid rise jeans never wear out or until they exist again.

I buy clothes at kohl’s, target, jeans are NY&C curvy boyfriend & Macy’s.

I have 0 fashion sense and def. don't dress with what's in style.

With that said I get a majority of my clothes from Kohls.

If I am going to be honest if i was in better shape I probably would dress a little differently but not by much Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

Yeah, I don’t know. I’m not a trendy person, so it doesn’t really affect me. I wear my normal “uniform” of leggings, jeans, dresses, tunics, cardigans, etc.

I’m also not wearing “slacks” either.

Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I’m almost 40. I dress how I like. I am in good shape and like to wear clothes that show that off. I usually like clothes from Loft, Banana Republic, Target, Nordstrom, and Macys. Recently I have been having a hard time finding clothes I love.

I will say IMO it's more important to dress for your body type than your age.
I've seen some people in their 20s who have no business wearing what they're wearing...regardless of hoe young they are.

I have to disagree with this. People should dress in clothes that they feel comfortable in.

Telling people what they should and should not wear based on body type just reinforces body image issues.

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I am 45! I workout and and stay active. I eat well... most of the time, but gotta live and love going out for drinks. I do work from home so mostly leggings and cute tshirts during the week.
I do love Norstrom rack online and Venus for my clothes.
Express I love for their jeans. They fit me best. I wear the cute jeans with holes in it and skinny still.
That's what makes me feel good. I color my hair and feel young... sometimes. LOL!
I do pass out some nights early though. LOL!

I also think the group you hang out with helps. WE like to hang out with the neighbors having drinks, hosting dinners or plannings nights out.
I say go wear what you love and look hot girl!

Many young girls want to dress like their friends and just don't fit in the clothes and I can NOT believe that they are comfortable with clothes that are that tight.

I don't get what dressing "my age" actually means. It sounds like 20, 30 and 40 years ago when people thought once you hit a certain age you need to cut off all your hair and wear "older" clothes.

I shop anywhere I find something I like and can afford.

While I am not dressing with crop tops and mini skirts or shorts where your ass cheeks are hanging out, I do wear what younger women wear, leggings, ripped jeans, jeggings, etc. I follow the fashions and will usually buy something that is in style but also go for the item that is not cookie cutter that everyone else has. I have gotten Uggs, but they are not the ones that everyone wears so you don't look like a clone.

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

Although I have never been considered “trendy”, I do try to keep up with things so I don’t feel frumpy. I’ll try new styles and if I feel good in them and they flatter my body I’ll stick with them. If not I just wear what I feel good in.

My go-to stores are Express, Loft, banana republic, Amazon, and old navy. But I will also see someone wearing something cute and ask where they got it and that’s how I’ve found some cute stuff at places I wouldn’t have normally shopped.

I wear jeans, a sweater and boots/booties in the winter and white pants, a short sleeve or sleeveless top and sandals in the summer. I almost never wear leggings out of the house and never, ever wear ripped jeans. I don’t even understand them. So, I am far from trendy I guess!

I honestly don’t shop much anymore but most of what I have is from Loft, Banana Republic, some H&M.

Yes! I look at some things and I'm like that CANNOT be comfortable! I am barely ever comfortable in jeans that FIT, much less ones that are like 2 sizes too small.
All I'm saying is, it's ok to go up a size or 2. Often you will look slimmer and better in things that actually fit you

I’ve taught HS for almost 20 years so I get what you are saying, but most girls regardless of size rock what they wear. They don’t look uncomfortable even if I feel like I would be uncomfortable in the same outfit. I say good for them wearing what they want and not caring what others think. Saying someone shouldn’t wear something because of their size is body shaming and just goes on to promote diet culture and body image problems.

Yes. I am not making fun of someone's size and yes, you should feel comfortable in your skin, BUT I can't see anyone feeling comfortable in something that is WAY too small for your body and it just looks so obvious. You don't need to cover up from head to toe but I know many people who are not skinny minnie's and still find trendy clothes that look much nicer on their figure.

I am sure you have seen what we are speaking of. Not trying to body shame and it is not always young girls. I just saw an older (50's) woman shopping who did not fit in her outfit and it didn't look comfortable or flattering. You should always dress for yourself but sorry, sometimes I think some people just don't have mirrors.

I do not dress my age and neither does my 81 year old mother. We wear what we like. For example, my mom never wears flats or sneakers, she wears all things with a two-three inch chunky heal. She never wears old lady pants or clothes that older ladies wear and people think shes in her 60s.

I shop mostly online/FB boutiques. I also wear the latest trends. I would not be caught dead in "age appropriate" clothes. People don't believe i'm my age either.

Age is only a number. You do what you feel comfortable with.

Agreed.
It's a terrible way to erode confidence.
I am finally starting to feel comfortable in my own body and wearing things that I like - regardless of if it's trendy or what someone else deems acceptable.

Don't like what I am wearing? Don't look.

I am almost 50 and I definitely dont 'dress my age'. I also don't give a f*ck. My 15 year old stepdaughter borrows my clothes, so clearly i dress too young. I mostly dress for comfort. I shop at athleta, aerie, express and revolve.

I am 40 and most of my gym outfits are from Forever 21. Chat Icon so there’s my answer. Nothing crazy though - I just really like some of their leggings & sports bras, and can’t beat the price!

I don't even know what dressing my age would be - I never was a trendy dresser - I wear what I like and what looks good on me. I have a more classic style but always have gravitated that way.

Re: Anyone hate dressing “their age”?

I honestly don't even know what dressing my age would entail lol. I'm 35, and most of my clothes are from Torrid. I have some stuff from Old Navy, but it's hit or miss with them for me. Their clothes tend to "grow" on me for some reason. Like, I'll put on a dress at the start of the day, and a few hours lately, it will have increased in size and is hanging off me. IDK if this makes any sense lol. So I tend to stick with ON for more casual, lounging clothes.

I feel like I dress how other people my age dress.
