Had anyone gone to the pediatrician for a sick visit?
Can not get an appointment until THURSDAY!
City MD isn’t taking anymore appointments today and told me to wait in line tomorrow morning.
PM pediatrics has no appointments and I can walk in and wait up to 5 hours.
I think my kid has an ear infection and I can’t get a f&cking appointment anywhere!!!
What the heck is going on???
My only option is do telahealth and have him treated with an antibiotic and hope it’s an infection and we’re treating the right thing???

It is so crazy now. I have no idea what is going on?
My husband when to city md last week at 10 am, and was put on a waiting list list. He got seen at 6pm.

I don’t understand how it’s possible that we can’t go anywhere!!!! This is insanity!!!
My blood is boiling right now.
My town Facebook group is saying the same thing. Just curious if it’s all of long island?!??

That’s odd. This is your regular pediatrician? I took my DD to the pediatrician a few weeks ago fir a sick visit (non covid related) and they told us to come right in. On a Saturday, no less.

Yes - we always get in same day as well.
Just an FYI - Telehealth typically won't do anything for an ear infection since they can't examine the ear (BTDT)
ETA - we did get an email from our ped though looking for more staff - I wonder if this is a result of the new vaccine mandate?

I was prescribed antibiotics over the summer through telehealth for an ear infection, so it might be worth a try! I'm guessing some do and some don't.

Yes it is. They only have four hours on Saturday for “weekend hours” and I’ve never been a lucky one to get one of those appointments.
Guess it’s time for a new pediatrician  Any recommendations for central Suffolk???

Go Health in Roslyn has a lot of openings tomorrow. I just had to make an appt for a covid test for Thursday. I think it's always best to reserve your spot online.

I can't speak to what is happening at my pediatrician's office but I can tell you my son had an ear infection over the summer, I did the telehealth over the phone with PM peds and I got antibiotics. If your child is in pain, I would definitely do it. Ear infections are the worst.

If u still can’t get an app anywhere, u might want to look into alleviating the pain at home. U can put some rice in a sock, tie it, warm it up, and have ur child hold it on the ear. U can also warm up (warm to the touch) a little bit of olive oil and apply a couple of drops to the ear. My grandmother used to do this to me whenever I had an ear infection and it always worked like a charm.

Update.
So after waiting in a virtual waiting room for 45 minutes they prescribed medicine for an “ear infection” based on the symptoms I told them.
Im in the process of looking for a new pediatrician who will actually have availability to see my kids when they are sick.
So fingers crossed my son actually has an ear infection and we are treating it correctly and it’s not something else.

I haven’t had any issues at all. My daughter was there last week for an infected ear piercing—I was able to go in a couple of hours after I called.

Both of my kids got same day appointments yesterday at our pedi office. Ive NEVER had an issue with same day. PM me if you want their info  Hope your son is feeling better!

We did yesterday.... But it was telehealth. My DH brought the baby to the parking lot of the doctors office, did the appointment over the phone, and then a nurse came out to swab my son in the car. He was exposed to COVID at daycare. I heard from other local parents that they were having trouble getting appointments for sick visits and even to go to the urgent cares.

I just had a same day sick appointment for myself - no issue getting an appointment 90 minutes later.
Don’t get me started on my dermatologist though. I called yesterday and today and still haven’t heard back.

Definitely get a new pediatrician. Our pediatrician always makes same day availability for a sick visit even during the height of COVID. Hope your DC feels better

This is not normal and I would look for a new pediatrician. For an ear infection go to CVS and get the hylands ear infection drops. They work much better than antibiotics and don’t harm gut health.

You have to get to cityMD first thing in the AM and you will get appt that day. Can your pediatrician do a telehealth?
