30th Birthday

I know this should be on the dining page but there is more action here.

My SIL is having a 30th birthday party at her home for her step daughter and ran the menu by me today as she is not sure if she has enough food. She is having about 30 people. My parties usually have too much food as everyone brings something but this type of party people will be coming with a gift, not food.

She will start out with appetizers/snacks:
Potato Chips and Dip
Veggies and Dip
Tortilla Chips and Cheese Dip
Deviled Eggs
Doritos
Popcorn

Dinner:
6 ft hero
Ziti (homemade, 1–I guess the size of a regular Pyrex)
Salad
Bread
Macaroni salad (homemade-2lbs)

Dessert:
Bday cake
Maybe some Brownies or Cookies to grab

Should she add something to dinner or will people fill up on the snacks first and not be too hungry?

Re: 30th Birthday

It doesn’t seem like enough to me.

The Doritos and tortilla chips with cheese dip seem redundant. I’d take one out. Maybe add some meatballs as an app?

Maybe add some chicken somewhere in there? It looks Italian based, so why not chicken Francese? I also think maybe eggplant parm? The macaroni salad seems a bit redundant. Maybe a little bit more ziti?

Ahh yes maybe I can suggest the meatballs I usually make as an app.
Chicken sounds good too. Thanks for the suggestions :)

I would throw in another entree tray or two - like a sausage and peppers or meatballs as said above.

I don’t find the Tostitos and Doritos redundant - since there is dip, you need Tostitos and some like Doritos. I was just at a party that had both.

I agree with KlingKlang, get rid of the Doritos. I’d also get rid of the popcorn. And if she wants to have more apps, maybe she can add either mozzarella/zucchini sticks, fried calamari, or an antipasto platter? Def add another dish for dinner, something easy, chicken/eggplant parm, eggplant rollatini, or sausage and peppers? Maybe instead of the mac and cheese, she can have bolognese pasta so it covers pasta and meat?

This. I’d make the ziti a larger serving (big sterno tray) and do some sausage & peppers or eggplant parm. Just another option for dinner. 1 piece of sandwich and some pasta is skimpy.

Also, I’d add some cheese & crackers to apps. Maybe pigs in a blanket like a PP mentioned.

I tend to always have too much. But I’d rather have too much than not enough.

She can easily add to the cheese and crackers and make it look like those super expensive platters that are now popular by adding some grapes, some fruit preserve like fig (yum!), brie, some type of nuts, olives, some fresh rosemary for decoration...and voila!

Blasphemy. I make this great popcorn with Parmesan cheese and smoked paprika.

Re: 30th Birthday

I’m having a 40th. Bday at my house for around 34 people.
It doesn’t seem like nearly enough food
Here is what I’m having
Pigs in Blanket
Shrimp spring rolls
Mozzarella sticks
Fried cauliflower
Large garden salad
Chicken Francese full tray
Chicken parm full tray
Penne al la vodka full tray
Sausage and peppers full tray
6 foot hero Italian and American
Cole slaw, Mac salad potato salad
Full tray of mozzarella and tomato
For dessert I have a huge custom cake and a pregnant cannoli filled with minis

I defin think she needs more dinner type food.

Re: 30th Birthday

I think it sounds good, but may want to add some more food.
Can do some hot apps like pigs in a blanket like others said, mozzarella sticks, or can do a hot pretzel platter too.
Cheese and crackers too if she's having wine. Can do a nice charcuterie board.

Seems like a lot of pasta with the dinner. Maybe a chicken dish too. Chicken wings or fried chicken.

Can always go to Coscto or Sams and get cookies and brownies. Maybe add a fruit bowl or watermelon.

It's a 30th bday so would want more food.
Definitely lots of alcohol too. Have fun!

I agree with those who said there should be more food. For the appetizers, I'd definitely add some hot, more substantial, items, like meatballs, wings, and/or mozzarella sticks. For the entrees, I'd add two more hot dishes--and more ziti...I don't think one Pyrex is enough for 30 people.

I'd do the cookies and/or brownies for dessert too...I feel like so many people don't eat the occasion cake. I don't mean to skip the cake, but to have those other options too.

ETA: I think another factor here is how long the party is expected to last. If it's going to be an all day and night event, they might want to do two entree-esque courses. Taco bar later at night could be fun.

This exactly. I always overdo it, but in a good way. We had DS's and DD's bdays at home and we did lots of different apps for each party... pigs in a blanket, chicken wings, mini quiches, cheese/meat/cracker plate, we got a tray of soft pretzels with dipping cheese and mustard from philly pretzel factory (that's like my go to to bring to a party now! It's SUCH a hit), and then lots of chips/dips.

I'd definitely do another entree as well- something like sausage & peppers or a chicken dish. I also have some vegetarians so I usually throw in a small thing of eggplant parm or stuffed peppers or something.

ETA: While we were prepping the food, DH said that was WAY too much. Let me tell you though, there was not a crumb left over! And everyone was satisfied.

I think she is doing the macaroni salad as usually with a hero you get the side salads.

Party is starting late afternoon so yeah they will probably need to have food available for hours.

As others said, definitely add a chicken dish to the dinner. I would also add coleslaw and potato salad.
I feel like people will either take a piece of hero with some salads or take the ziti with green salad and bread.
I would add some more desserts like bite size brownies or cookies. I know cake seems to be turned down but I never have any cookies/brownies left from parties.
