My company sent out some emails acknowledging the new holiday, and some info on it. It's way too soon for them to try and put it into the calendar. I also doubt we'll get the day off next year. We only get 10 scheduled holidays each year. We have "floating holidays" that we can use as vacation days whenever we want, so I'm sure they'll encourage people to use a floating holiday for Juneteenth if they want to observe.

Nope and honestly I don’t know anyone who celebrates this around me.
I assume it will be a day like MLK that you will have to use your own day if you want to.

My company doesn't even give us off for President's Day and a host of other federal holidays.
No way would we be getting this.
We are lucky to have Memorial Day etc

Yes, my company gave it off last year and said they will continue to in the future. They did not, however, give off Friday in observance of it this year. I know a few people whose companies have which I was surprised about. I wonder if they will going forward now that it's being recognized as a federal holiday.
ETA: I guess I spoke too soon- we just received an e-mail that we'll be closed tomorrow.

I feel like NYC schools have off for so many different religious holidays now in combination with the federal holidays. They should take something away or else these kids will be going to school in July soon.

For this year (because it's a NYS holiday) it's a floating holiday, so we could have taken today off, or can use it anytime. Not sure yet what will happen next year

I feel like NYC schools have off for so many different religious holidays now in combination with the federal holidays. They should take something away or else these kids will be going to school in July soon.
They took away snow days, lol

Are there any holidays that have to be given off cause it’s a federal
Holiday??
Cause at my old job I got both MLK and Presidents’ Day off. But my current job only gives me off MLK.
But with this job we get off Good Friday but my old Job didn’t.

Private industry does not have to give any holidays off. It's at their discretion which holidays to give

You may not know anyone around you who celebrates it but keep in mind that for many Juneteenth is their Independence Day.
As for the day off, haven't heard anything yet. I'm a county employee so that will probably have to wait for the next time the employment contracts are negotiated. There are certain holidays off on our contract per calendar year, so I don't think it's an automatic thing. My husband gets a comp day for juneteenth as of last year...
I'm honestly so happy that this passed. Seems like a no brainer....
