TV situations that you found out don't really happen?

What problem or situation did TV / movies make you think would be common, but when you grew up you found out it wasn’t?

There's a lot more wrong numbers and advertising calls... not every phone call is your best friend or next door neighbor... Chat Icon

Labor/childbirth... when your water breaks there's not always a big gush and it doesn't mean race like hell to the hospital because all of a sudden you're in excruciating pain and the baby is coming NOW.

People aren't constantly opening the front door and walking into your house unannounced.

The Thanksgiving turkey is brought out to the table whole and craved right there.

Cars never seem to need gas. I don't recall the last time I ever saw a car at a gas station in a TV show.

There were several movies, but it was a part of the plot. Vacation, Terminator, Zoolander... Chat Icon

One bathroom is enough for a family. Nope!

There is never a huge amount of breakfast pancakes stacked high.

Oh, and you DON'T always run into neighbors at the grocery store.

That families have big breakfasts and lively conversations every morning. I'm lucky if I get a grunt from my kids lol.

* families have time for a real breakfast before work/school
* everyone has a local restaurant/bar where they're a regular
* no one wakes up with morning breath

100% I was thinking the same about the whole family sitting down to dinner, calmly. We are rushing around like a bunch of lunatics.

Also, how after a TV parent flips out on their kid, they go and apologize and have a heart to heart. I have yet to experience that from my parents. Chat Icon

The second set of stairs in the kitchen every sitcom has no matter how small the house.

Drinking milk with dinner. I've never seen anyone IRL do that.

My great aunt had that in her house in Queens and my grandmother had it in Queens as well.

I didn’t though.

As a kid all I drank was milk. Breakfast, lunch and dinner even with pizza. It does happen.

I've seen kids do it, but I meant as a family, namely adults. In sitcoms even the parents drink milk for dinner with their meal. It might happen, but I've never seen that before.

That makes sense I definitely drink it much less now as an adult but every once and while I will still have it with dinner.
