2021-2022 school year
I was surprised to get an email from my district they plan on also offering full remote learning next year - anyone else's district planning this?

3V was our old district, miss it! ??
Our current district hasn't said anything at all yet regarding next school year. I expect to learn more over the summer. We're back full day, 5 days anyway so at this point all I'm hoping for is for them to lift the mask mandates. Guess we'll see.

Right now all students are either back full time or fully remote if they so chose.
No more hybrid nonsense.
My DD said a lot of the remote kids have been returning to in person over the past few weeks too.

Our district is either fully in-person or fully remote now. And, I think only about 4% of the students are fully remote. I don't recall if they said anything about next year, but I think it will be back to normal. Depending on what happens between now and September, I think they may still have masks. But hopefully that will end too!

The last I heard about my district is all back in September. There is no more full remote learning unless you have a justifiable medical reason. (Not sure what those guidelines are) most kids have been back at the Middle School level and HS level since March when they got rid of hybrid. There are still some on full remote but I don’t know the percentages

Honestly what is the reason for even offering full remote next year?
Anyone who wants to be vaccinated can be.
By then, even children will be able to be vaccinated I am sure.
What reason is there to let students be full remote?
Other than a medically fragile child of course, but I'm sure that would be few and far between

As a teacher, I sure hope there is not a virtual option unless my district has dedicated virtual sections. Teaching in person and online simultaneously is a terrible model.

My district was one of the last to announce plans last year so I don’t expect to hear anything for a long time. I’m just hoping that before and after care come back. I can’t see there being a remote option. We are a relatively small district and I feel like taking a teacher for that is a waste of resources. I work for the city so we will see about that one hahaha

Basically this!!

There are still offering the option because children in the elementary schools most likely can not be vaccinated by the time school starts and there is also nothing mandated that someone needs to take the vaccination. There are still many families with medical needs that still do not feel comfortable being in school in person. They are projecting the numbers to be very small and the remote school will have substantially less teachers/classes.
For the secondary, this will also be small for the remote option but as you know the students are just logging into their in person class so there is no extra cost to keep the secondary up and running. We also have to keep cognizant that quarantining is still in effect as of now as we need an option for those students who will be home.
Of course the guidelines change almost daily and maybe none of this will be needed in September but it's better to plan and pull back if needed than not plan and scramble at the last minute.

Didn’t know this but also didn’t realize South Carolina stopped it to. From what I can tell some are still choosing to wear them and that’s how it should be.
I hope they keep up with the cleaning portion though. I don’t know if it was the mask or the cleaning but clearly something was working to keep sicknesses down this year! Hoping it’s mostly the cleaning and they will stick to it!

Our district is planning to offer in person learning only. Masks will likely still be required which I am fine with as long they are in school full time.

Yes - he wears it at recess - he can only take it off outside if he's 12 ft apart from everyone and seated. They started the year with no masks at recess and everyone separated and they figured it was easier to let them play, masked.
I hope if remote is an option next year, it's a separate classroom, especially at the elementary school level - it's hard to teach both kids at home and kids in person.
My son joined in remotely last week in middle school (he needed a covid test for allergy congestion) and it wasn't hard - but he didn't get much individualized attention, he just listened in which is fine for the short term.

What’s the reason behind it?
I think there should be extenuating circumstances. But unfortunately those who chose virtual and would miss a portion because they were at horseback riding lessons or logging in from their vacation in Aruba ruined it for many. I laugh when you hear people make a stink that their kid NEEDS to be virtual bc they are afraid of Covid, yet they are taking zero precautions

Yes my kids are in it all day too and they are not 6 feet apart all day so that is why. Their desks are only maybe 3 feet apart!!!
Even outside they make them wear it.
Baseball finally started in my town for my son and kids were wearing mask on the field I told my son to not do it it’s ridiculous. So he stopped in a couple of the kids up now stoped. It’s outside you don’t need a mask!!!
Hopefully by September it goes away.

Ita. I think it would make things a lot simpler if it wasn't offered, but if they do it needs to be only dedicated classes. The live streaming while teaching in person is just not effective for either group.

I’m in CT, but our district just had a survey for parents of kids in K-6 to see whether there was interest in remote learning for next year. Only about 1% were interested in their kids being fully remote next year so the district isn’t offering it.
DS2 has been in person for the whole year. DS1 had been hybrid and finally went back FT after spring break. He’s so much happier and more motivated now. Most of the kids chose to go back FT for the rest of the year.

Both my school and my children's school said most likely 3 feet spacing and masks, but open full time and any adult and child who is vaccinated will no not have to quarantine after exposure. I don't love the masks in school, but if it allows them to stay in school full time I'll deal. They also said six feet would likely remain for eating and singing- so my guess is the cafeteria will be closed like it was this year.
