I get that women have been disproportionately displaced from the workforce because of the pandemic. Numbers support that more women have left the workforce to care for children then men and as a higher rate then we have seen in 33 years.
I'm just not comfortable with the brief review of this plan. It seems like a back way to establish some very needed changes such as affordable child care, paid maternity and paternity leave and for more then 12 weeks. I would hate to see caps on this as well. I'm really confused with how I feel about this.
Right, and I agree about the need for affordable childcare and longer leave.
But if a mom quits her job to take care of her kids she doesn’t need affordable childcare. She IS the affordable childcare.
I can’t tell who they’re trying to help or what the goal is. It’s so horribly thought out.

I agree. I did some quick research but I can't really drill down who they are trying to help.
I work full time and still manage the household...I would love some type of help to alleviate the stress and financial burdens. I don't see how the plan, as I see it laid out, is going to help.

I hope it is just for those who were forced out of the workforce due to circumstances directly related to the pandemic, not for those who are still working or were not working prior...

What about working moms or dads who had to find and pay for childcare that they never had to before COVID?
I didn't leave my job but I had to pay a sitter and also paid to have a family member fly up and live with us for a bit to watch my children bc I couldn't leave my job. I didn't lose my whole salary but it hurt financially.

My husband is a stay at home dad.
He does pretty much everything.
I hope he gets paid for his "unseen labor"
I can't tell you the last time I cooked or food shopped.
Such a sexist concept that only women do that stuff
 this reminds me of that movie about Ruth Bader Ginsburg where the guy is fighting because he had to quit his job to take care of his mom but the credit only applied to women. This should not just be offered to only women.

SAHM’s who did not lose a job during this should not be getting anything. The reason most are home is because they have other income to survive on.
Where is this money coming from though? Have they indicated that?
HA -- we will! Us working moms who bust our butts all day while simultaneously running a household and caring for our kids (or footing the bill to have help in caring for them). That is who. Im not one to complain or swing right... but im getting a little bit tired of all this money being thrown around. Like another poster said our standard of living on LI is grossly out of wack with the rest of the country. I havent received any kind of stimulus but im sure as heck paying for it. Biden also extended unemployment til summer. That means there are tons of open positions in blue collar fields because there is no one that wants to take them. And as imports are harder and harder to come by prices are increasing (not just gas) and by fall you are going to see everyday items hitting your bottom line.

In what way? I'm not being snarky; I am just trying to understand the rationale of the statement.
Personally, the need for childcare should be independent from the educational system. The burden of childcare should not be wrapped up in the educational system. I understand with the closure of schools that left a hole that needed to be filled and spilled over in to the need for child care. I believe that hole is short lived.
I also believe in support measures that would allow parents to return to work. The way things are now, you return to a low paying job but make too much to qualify for safety nets like SNAP and housing assistance but you don't make enough in salary to cover those expenses...the "between a rock and hard place"
If our federal government really wanted to push private industry to provide better benefits such as PTO, child care subsidies, etc...They would do it through tax credits and incentives.
I went off on a tangent...sorry for that.

This is a terrible idea. While I think it is awful that people needed to leave their jobs due to the need of taking care of their children, this is not a new concept. I know plenty of women, myself included that had to leave their careers for childcare purposes. Does that not count just because it happened during in a pandemic? We need to stop with all this money being tossed around. If they want to do something, offer affordable childcare, give free training to get back into the workforce, give better policies so parents are able to take time for their families during a crisis without reproductions. Regardless what they end up doing, there should absolutely be no caps.

As a working mom who now works from home (first due to Covid, now a new job which is permanently remote) I don't know about this. I agree that *maybe* if it's just for women (AND MEN!) that can prove they lost/quit their jobs due to Covid and having to provide childcare... otherwise I can't really get behind it for just anyone who wants to stay home with their kids. What is the incentive to work outside the home then? I think a better universal 3s/4s programs and affordable childcare is the answer here- pandemic aside.
ETA: I do like the idea of companies like LinkedIn providing a "SAHM/D" option on their resumes/work history. It's a valid job and not something that should be looked down upon for women/men who want to get back into the workforce after taking time off to care for their kids.

This (like padding the unemployment) will simply incentivize women not to return to work. A burden on the taxpayers. Socialism at its finest -it all sounds great until you start running out of other people's money.
