2021 / 2022 school year
Has your school district made any changes to Covid protocols yet? Any talks of possible changes?
So far my district has said class sizes will go back to pre-Covid sizes. That was the only thing I liked about the protocols, was smaller classes!
We never had desk shields, curious if those will be gone?
Daily temperatures?

2021 / 2022 school year
The district I teach in has released no new I formation. Same for the district I live in. I would assume we won’t have any changes until they are adopted by the state which probably won’t be until summer.
Currently my county does not meet the criteria for 3 feet apart. Once it meets that criteria, I would imagine things would change.

We're full time, every day now so that will continue. As far as social distancing and masks, I don't expect any announcements from the district until over the summer.
ETA - We never had desk shields or daily temp checks. Our class sizes are already small as we live in a tiny district.

I believe that a lot will depend on spread numbers, and whether even more dangerous to kids and/or vaccine resistant variants develop.
If the numbers are down and variants that seriously harm or kill either kids (who can't get the vaccine) or those already vaccinated haven't developed and spread, things should be more normal.
With vaccine hesitancy and resistance to the CDC's recommendations, though, there is a decent chance that things will be the same or worse. Which sucks for all of us who want to see things back to pre-Covid days asap.

Our district hasn't said anything yet. I would be fine keeping the temp checks and desk shields but wish they would do away with the masks for the kids. My Kindergartner has had a hard time forming connections with the kids in his class because of the masks. It's April and he still can't tell some kids apart in his class because he's never seen their full face.

We just went back full time last week. Since we were hybrid most of the year at 6 ft and went back after CDC changed the recommendations - our district doesn't use desk shields but keeps 3 ft of distance.
I anticipate going back full time in the fall. I'm sure temp checks and masks will continue (I'm fine with temp checks - I bought a forehead thermometer and it's part of our routine now but hoping masks will be a thing of the past).
Yesterday - my 5th grade son got to play Gagaball at lunch recess - he's like they let us use a ball and play together. It made him so happy - until the whole grade realized they could play Gagaball so they had to stop.

Awwww  That makes me sad, poor kid. I am hoping more than anything that by the fall the masks are a thing of the past................for everyone!!

Thankfully, our district has allowed no masks at recess all year as long as they are outside. They also give them "mask breaks" throughout the day.

My daughters class was larger (by 5 extra students) this year than in all previous years. Insane!
Next year - normal/large class sizes. I think the petitions might come down. I heard masks and 3ft distancing will still be enforced. not sure about the lunch room situation - this year they eat mostly in the classroom....

we haven't heard of any changes yet- personally I am fine with keeping the desk shields if it means they can take the mask off behind the shield

The only thing I heard was that there is no more remote learning unless your child has a documented medical issue. I am not too sure what the guidelines are on that or what they consider a medical necessity .The district nixed hybrid last month for the middle and hs this year also so most of the kids are already back.

I feel so bad for these little kids, it's so tough and certainly not a normal way to be socializing. What kind of relationships can you foster being 12ft away from everyone? I've written off this school year but I'm hoping that September is A LOT better for all.

Our school stopped taking Temps in March. Not one positive case came from taking them every morning for 8 months so they stopped (district wide). I know the superintendent is considering masks optional for next year, so we'll see.

No, not NY. I am not sure what we will do yet if they are optional, but I am very happy that it is being considered an option to let people decide for themselves.

We haven’t heard anything yet. They stopped taking temps after winter break. All children must wear masks and they have the desk shields. IMO they need to do something about their quarantine protocols but that’s a long shot.
I’m happy to oblige with whatever they want as long as they stay in school full time.

NYC is preparing for the 3ft rule while masked and 6ft rule when eating.
I’m sure that will change 7 times between now and when school starts in September.

Your kids are so lucky. Mine are wearing masks while reading outside ....6 feet apart. So ridiculous, and the teacher captions the photos “getting fresh air”

Our district is starting to change things for the balance of this year.
Temp checks stopped at my sons school Monday. They will start to move for specials. He said library is first. And shields between desk will be phased out as school ends.
Honestly I don’t care if they do these changes now or later. My son had a horrible beginning of the year but has adapted as time went on. We roll with it.

Your kids are so lucky. Mine are wearing masks while reading outside ....6 feet apart. So ridiculous, and the teacher captions the photos “getting fresh air”
Mine does the same. They also pull their masks up in between bites at lunch and snack is outside so if it rains they don’t get snack.
Which wouldn’t even bother me except they are so beyond cautious it defies science yet still quarantine half the class if a kid tests positive.
