On, of course.
I have a friend who grew up on LI, but when she goes back to visit she always says "in Long Island" and it drives me crazy! You're a native!

The funny thing though is, I always say, well it's an island so we live "ON" an island. Makes sense.
But, then I think about other islands. Like Hawaii, Cuba, etc.
And you don't say you live ON Cuba or ON Hawaii
But yet for Long Island it just seems so logical to say you live ON an Island.
Things that make you go hmmmm...

I think it is supposed to be in when it is a poliitcal border ( country, state, etc) but on when you are speaking of the geographical island.
You would say, "in Long island towns", but on Long island.
We say in Hawaii, because it is a state. You would be on Ohau. Although, I think some people say in Maui, but that is referring to Maui County ( I had to look that part up.)
And, yes there is an island called Hawaii, but it is usually called the Big Island, and people say "on the big Island." Or "on the Island of Hawaii" ( in the news, for ex.)

Right, like Brooklyn and Queens are both on the island, but people don't say I live ON Queens, I live ON Brooklyn
And when it comes to the state of Rhode Island people don't say I live ON Rhode Island. Even though it's not technically an island but it has the word island in its name.
