I'm fine with the vaccine being mandatory and yes, providing the trials go well for DS (11) I would definitely have him get it, especially as it's an mRNA vaccine.

Make the vaccine available to whomever wants to take it. Obviously if you are older or have a comorbidity you should have first priority to receive the vaccine. IMO the vaccine should NOT be mandatory for anyone.
College kids are not the demographic that COVID affects the most so why make a vaccine that is still not FDA approved mandatory for young adults? That does not make any sense to me at all.
If a professor or staff is concerned about contracting COVID then they should have access to a vaccine. Once vaccinated they should be safe.
My kids are vaccinated with all the FDA approved mandatory vaccinations therefore if they are playing with unvaccinated children I don't worry because they are vaccinated and protected. That should be the same line of thinking for COVID. If you get the vaccine and believe it protects you, why should you force it on anyone else?

Yeah no flu shots are required in my school district in suffolk.
We get her a flu shot every year- out of habit more than anything- but have never been asked for proof of it by the school
I do think they ask for a dental form though.

I am so confused by this post and many others on this thread and honestly it scares me for all of our children. The justification I’m hearing is “trust the science.” But what science is there here? This is a brand new vaccine using medical technology that has never been used in a vaccine before - NO ONE not even science can say this is safe in the long term right now for our kids! They can guess based on science but no doctor or scientist can know for sure because there is not even one child who had this shot even a year ago! How many examples through time have we seen where something is medically approved and promoted and ten years later it’s pulled when it’s discovered that it caused cancer or infertility or autoimmune etc? I can give many examples! Even with vaccines there are examples! Sometimes the danger of a medicine etc isn’t even seen until the next generation! Where someone who took a certain medicine might have a child who is infertile etc. I’m shocked how as a society we will potentially sacrifice the life and health of our children for the sake of “normalcy”. I also want to point out something else that you may or may not be aware of. Pfizer and Moderna are only allowing their vaccines to be distributed in countries that have agreed to allow them to be absolved from liability “not only against civil claims from citizens who suffer serious adverse events after being vaccinated, but also for cases brought due to their own negligence, fraud or malice.” The lawyers will understand the gravity of this. You could only be held liable for such things if it is proved they disseminated the vaccine KNOWING the harm it could cause. A little scary? So even if it is proved down the line that Pfizer knew the vaccine could potentially be harmful down the line and that happens - you can’t even sue them!!!! They have no liability at all!
Most states will never allow mandatory vaccination with an experimental vaccine but unfortunately, New York probably will. Sad that those of us who don’t want to risk the health of our kids would have to move.

I’m not decided if I would give my child this vaccine, but just to play devils advocate, we also have no idea of the long-term effects of Covid on our bodies.
We could find out that anyone who had Covid has serious organ damage that emerges 10 years later—even children that may have been asymptomatic or seemed to recover well.
And many parents that are against the vaccine seem to be totally OK with indoor, maskless activities. Why is that unknown ok??

I don't think any state is going to make this mandatory for at least another few years. Everyone should be allowed to make their own decision for their own child. I would not mind if it were mandatory because I would give my children the vaccine. But I know many do not want to and I respect that.
I do want to say though, some of these new variants are affecting children at a higher rate than the original strain. Younger people are also being hospitalized at a higher rate than at any other point in the pandemic.

I had covid in January. It was very mild. I got the J&J vaccine yesterday. I had a horrible reaction to it. It was basically my covid symptoms times 100. I‘m just starting to feel better. There is no way I would subject my children to this. Ever. Immediately when the shot went in it felt different than any other shot I’ve ever had. Now I am a little freaked out because I feel like I made the wrong choice. There is not enough data on these vaccines. I regret taking it after having such a mild reaction to covid itself. I hope and pray that they don’t mandate this for children any time soon. In all of our lives I can’t recall any vaccine that makes people this sick. I know I’m not going to die from the shot but something definitely seems off. Everyone should have a choice when it comes to this and no one should be forced to take it.

I agree as well.
Also agree! The idea that someone would be forced to put something in their body that they do not feel comfortable with scares me. It's a slippery slope.

Sorry for your loss and glad you didn’t have the reaction that I did. That’s a chance you are willing to take but that chance should be a choice. Not a requirement.

Don’t you find it interesting that the teachers unions go nuts every time there is mention of mandating vaccines for teachers? No public school has mandated vaccines for teachers and they are the ones that could actually have a higher chance of getting seriously ill! They are standing up for themselves but who is standing up for our kids???? How does this make any sense! I don’t know one child who has gotten seriously ill from covid and many more children have had covid and for a longer term than the vaccine. How can we say the benefit to this group of mandatory vaccination outweighs the risk?????
I also want to point out something else that you may or may not be aware of. Pfizer and Moderna are only allowing their vaccines to be distributed in countries that have agreed to allow them to be absolved from liability “not only against civil claims from citizens who suffer serious adverse events after being vaccinated, but also for cases brought due to their own negligence, fraud or malice.” The lawyers will understand the gravity of this. You could only be held liable for such things if it is proved they disseminated the vaccine KNOWING the harm it could cause. A little scary? So even if it is proved down the line that Pfizer knew the vaccine could potentially be harmful down the line and that happens - you can’t even sue them!!!! They have no liability at all!
Most states will never allow mandatory vaccination with an experimental vaccine but unfortunately, New York probably will. Sad that those of us who don’t want to risk the health of our kids would have to move.
Lack of liability has been one of my main problems I have not only with the covid vaccine but with all vaccines. None of the pharmaceutical companies that produce them have had liability since 1986 in the US, none. However we keep seeing increases in vaccine injury more and more. The only way someone injured could get compensated was by the government through court. But it is extremely difficult winning these cases because the more time that passes, the harder it is to come up with “acceptable” documentation that they’d approve that tracks these injuries back to the vaccine the caused them even though the Supreme Court itself has stated ‘vaccines are unavoidably unsafe’ and even though those type of injuries are indeed linked to vaccines. Now with the covid vaccines, not even the government will compensate for harms due to covid vaccines (either side effects/adverse reactions that can happen soon after the vaccine or in the long run) and that’s because of the emergency act. So if someone in ur family (or u) is unlucky enough to suffer complications or even death, u’re on ur own (general u). It is unfortunate that most people don’t know this and it’s concerning that no one is informing the public about this because due to the circumstances of the vaccine, this is absolutely crucial information to be given to the public prior to giving the vaccine.

I am so confused by this post and many others on this thread and honestly it scares me for all of our children. The justification I’m hearing is “trust the science.” But what science is there here? The first kids to take these shots were only a few months ago! So the only science is on limited data from a few months? This is a brand new vaccine using medical technology that has never been used in a vaccine before - NO ONE not even science can say this is safe in the long term right now for our kids! They can guess based on science but no doctor or scientist can know for sure because there is not even one child who had this shot even a year ago! How many examples through time have we seen where something is medically approved and promoted and ten years later it’s pulled when it’s discovered that it caused cancer or infertility or autoimmune etc? I can give many examples! Even with vaccines there are examples! Sometimes the danger of a medicine etc isn’t even seen until the next generation! I’m not decided if I would give my child this vaccine, but just to play devils advocate, we also have no idea of the long-term effects of Covid on our bodies.
We could find out that anyone who had Covid has serious organ damage that emerges 10 years later—even children that may have been asymptomatic or seemed to recover well.
And many parents that are against the vaccine seem to be totally OK with indoor, maskless activities. Why is that unknown ok??
Like all illnesses, we don’t know of long term effects.
We can’t be afraid of living because of the what if’s.
If you don't want the other side to question you about your being OK with basically no restrictions for your life and children, then you should not question those who want to vaccinate their child and keep taking precautions for now.
The problem is people who don’t want to vaccinate are being forced into it and that is just wrong.

I an sure there are jobs that will basically make you get one and the colleges are starting to get on board that you need to be vaccinated to go to them.

All of these kids enrolled at colleges that are now requiring vaccination to return in the fall. 10 colleges announces this weekend. It’s no longer a choice for a lot of people.

It’s moving so fast that I think it will be mandated on public schools in NY by fall 2022.

Actually we do know long-term effects of most illnesses, as they’ve been around and studied for hundreds of years.
