Rest assure though that they’ll try again and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit that they’d try to make the covid vaccine mandatory for schools too as soon as they get the chance!

I was curious as we didn’t have that vaccine when we were younger. My son just automatically got his but I wasn’t sure if they changed the requirements to include chicken pox.

Yeap, soon after they got rid of the religious exemptions for schools. Guess who was behind those bills for the religious exemptions to be eliminated? The same POSs that were trying to make the HPV and flu vaccine mandatory.
Yes, the chicken pox vaccine is mandatory in schools.

There are a lot of vaccines/boosters that kids now are required to have to be in schools compared to the amount we had when we were kids, a lot!

My daughters college is not requiring it, but she willingly went out and got it. I would have had no problem had they made it mandatory.

I have no problem with the vaccine FOR ME. That's my choice. I don't think its right for a college, or anyone for that matter, to mandate a vaccine that is not yet FDA approved.

Many many more- professors, food services, maintenance services, administrators - just to name a few. If you were just talking about a big pile of 20 somethings who all want to hang out and party together and who would have no chance of carrying the virus to others - hey, go for it. But on a large college campus, you're talking about thousands of others who are also there and come into close contact with those students

Of course I’m ok with mandatory COVID vaccinations. We want to get back to some semblance of normal life don’t we? I really don’t get all this fear and hesitation that is rooted in nothing factual.

Yes, but as many on here keep pointing out, the vaccine doesn't necessarily PREVENT someone from getting covid. And what about the person who can't, for medical reasons?

My hesitation/ fear is
-it’s not FDA approved.
-I’m not high risk.
-I can still contract and spread Covid with the vaccination
-the vaccination is to lessen the symptoms so you don’t end up hospitalized...again I’m not in that bucket
-I am more nervous about the long term affects of the vaccine vs contracting Covid
And for those of you saying ‘trust the science’...I’m not in the medical field. So maybe I don’t understand the science behind it. It’s like being lost alone at night in a foreign country and someone approaching you speaking another language and trying to convince you to get in their car. It’s nerve wrecking. I respect those that choose to get it, I just wish I would get respect for my decision.

Definitely ok with mandates, with obvious medical exemptions, as there always are with vaccine mandates. The more this spreads, the more likely it is that we get a vaccine resistant variant...and then we are back to this past year. Stopping the spread is the way out/back.

Yes, but will put her in a tank top. She hates rolling up her sleeves.

It is required - I was so on the ball registering my older son for K - I went to the Dr. that am, had all of my forms, but the last line explaining why he didn't get it was cut off so they gave me a hard time.
ETA - I am not for it being mandated. I took it, DH took it but, I'm not ready to give it to my kids.

The more time goes by, researchers are beginning to have proof that the vaccine does help prevent transmission.
I actually don't think it should be mandated in schools, even though I am a huge proponent of this vaccine. I am posting the link because a few people said they could still carry and spread the virus...and while that is true, you are far less likely to spread it if you are vaccinated.

If my kids were over 16, I would definitely encourage them to get it. Secondary and college education has been so negatively impacted so I hope they'll be lining up to get it. I would think those that are in college already and missing out on a lot of college life will want to get it.
As for younger kids, I think we need a ton more testing and time before it's even a consideration.

I agree.
Also, college kids are not minors anymore. That's on them to decide.
The point is it's not on them to decide....it's on the colleges to decide apparently

I don't agree with this but college students are adults who can make their decisions. I just hope they would offer a remote option for those who decline the vaccine. If not then it's a huge issue...

Trust me, it comes down to money for these schools so they'd have to or risk losing tuition
