Critical Race Theory in School
Has this been introduced into your district? I just saw on my FB Mom
Group that some reading has been inserted into the middle school in conjunction with an “anti-racism” group. Any thoughts?

Critical Race Theory in School
I just feel like racism stems from the home. It doesn’t matter what you teach kids at school, if their family is racist the children have been exposed to that belief since childhood. A class in middle school isn’t going to change that.
Just like obesity....you can teach children in health class how to eat healthy but if they live in a house that eats crap and doesn’t exercise it’s a pointless class.
Same with drugs and sex. It’s parents jobs to teach kids how to be kind, responsible, healthy human beings. Teachers are there to teach. Parents maybe need to take a how not to be an a$$hole class?

I have to agree and disagree with these examples as you can have 2 siblings who grew up in the same house end of very differently. Not all that is taught at home is what they have taken with them nor do they learn many things outside the home.
I really dislike when parents get commended or put down for things their children do as there are many factors that are included in their decisions in life.
Yes, parents are the first ones to teach but most children are raised by a village and have many outside influences and also, lets give some of these kids credit for making good decisions and choices that maybe they are not even taught at home.

Daycare, babysitters, friends, camp, etc.
Just indicating they can get it from other places then their parents. Especially teens who say things that boggle your mind and know you didn’t teach them some things.

My issue with this answer is this... .if someone is truly not hiring a teacher to work in their distrcit for no other reason than because they are a POC , then do you truly believe that them taking a class on "critical race theory" is really going to make them change their ways?
It's like how we all have to sit through sexual harassment training at work and then right after the usual predators are asking the girls out for drinks and hitting on them. Yeah that class really helped...

How words hurt, the legal consequences of hate crimes. What to do when someone says a racial slur to you, what to do if you hear someone else saying a racial slur. Also, especially in the younger grades, there needs to be a safe haven for these kids to ask about the words they hear and to find out what they mean. Kids repeat what is on the playground and at home and have no idea on what they are saying. There is so much they need to learn and it is obvious it is not happening at home.

I don’t think anyone believe that.
Do you have older children? It’s a while different ball game once kids are more independent and out on their own learning things outside of the house. You can only teach so much and hope it sticks.

OMG. Vile and disgusting human beings. My heart breaks for that woman.
I know it's private school, but another horrifying thing I read recently was a white principal at a LI catholic school asked a black student to kneel in front of him and apologize because it was the "african way".
I don't understand how some people still refuse to see the plight of POC in this country. We really haven't come that far from MLK. Sure, we can all drink out of the same water fountain and our kids can go to the same schools, but I feel like by now we should be much further along than that. POC are still not treated the same way as whites. In this current climate, this type of content is absolutely needed in schools.
