I have never understood these people who say " Well my mother went to vote with all 47 of her children and while she was in line she also cooked dinner and carved a Swan out of ice and if she can do it then so can everybody else". It is so narrow minded and full of privilege. My grandparents came here from Italy and became us citizens but I am not naive enough to think because they were able to do it that it's so easy for everyone else. I don't know how so many people know so many entitled adults because many of the adults I know are extremely hard working and not looking for everybody to do things for them.

Unfortunately, there are many people who seem to think that the anecdotal stories from their very small existence are somehow applicable to the world as a whole. It's so small minded. The reality is that there are large swaths of the population that face a multitude of obstacles and issues that most of us cannot even begin to relate to or understand. As a society, it's important that we be sensitive to that fact.

The argument over voting ID is simply going in circles and is distracting from the real issue which is the many efforts that are put into voter suppression. Regardless of anyone's lot in life (rich, poor, dumb, smart, black, white etc) we ALL have a constitutional right to vote. Period. As such, our elected officials should be doing all that they can to expand voting rights and accessibility for EVERYONE. Being hung up on voter ID as if it's some "game changer" in an election is very short sighted and plays into the unfounded claims of rampant voter fraud.

So true! The anecdotes - it's just silly. The conclusions people draw from their tiny circles. It's irrelevant!

Re: Georgia voting law

Can we please get a list of when it’s appropriate for people to post their personal stories or anecdotes? It seems you can only do it at certain times and it can only be done by certain people.

If I can get the guidelines and restrictions, that would be great. Thanks!

This is such an immature comment and shows that you have repeatedly missed the point.

We all have our stories and our experiences, we all "know a guy" but to write off decades of injustices just because it's an experience you didn't personally have is very narrow minded. Part of doing better by others is recognizing that not everyone has had it as good as you and that just because on paper we might all have the same rights we really all don't.

This discussion has gone off the rails because a few people are locked into voter ID's. But that is such a small issue in comparison to the bigger issues of voter suppression which is real and historically documented. If you choose to not believe that because it doesn't fit your narrative I guess that is on you. But constantly railing on about ONLY voter ID implies that you think the problems in our election system are exclusively related to rampant fraud. A claim that has been shown to have no factual basis whatsoever.

The REAL problems in our election system go beyond voter ID. It's about gerrymandering, voter roll purges, limiting early voting, voter intimidation, etc. and these things are designed to suppress the vote of certain groups of people. It's real. It's history. And it's still happening today. So instead of making the discussion about stricter voter ID rules, which whether you like it or not is also a form of voter suppression, let's discuss the ways in which our government could make voting more accessible to ALL. Not some of us. ALL of us.

Why in this country, which is suppose to be the greatest country in the world, do we make it so complicated for some to make their voices heard? It does not make any sense and all of these anecdotal stories and the "I know a guy" replies doesn't negate what is actually happening around us. Whether you or I have had firsthand experience of voter suppression doesn't make it not real and that is the point I have been making. That is the real issue. NOT voter ID's.

It’s not immature it’s calling out the facts of what is happening in this posts and all the other ones on politics board.

People posts they never use IDs, share stories, that is fine. The other side posts why they feel IDs are necessary, those Stories are not relative, anecdotal etc.

Please stop with the immature comment, be original - Naturalmama already used that line on me. And you are one of the most immature people on this thread as well. So give it a rest already. You are the biggest offender of accusing people of the same exact bad behavior you do.

I know the issues, I know what voter suppression is. You participated and helped derail this thread to pick apart the point of IDs. You’re like a rabid dog with a bone. My goodness, listen to what the other side is saying for once.

I do know about real life situations, and what it is like. I’m not posting made
up stories or assumption just so I can be right in front of a group of internet strangers to make myself feel good.

I feel like people on this board try too dam hard to be woke. Harder than the actual people who are on the frontlines and fighting for the these rights, who understand these pressures, who live it day in and out. Who are actively a part of these communities and the issues. I can tell by the pointless turns these threads make over nonsense. The childish fight and name calling, which you are always a part of by they way. So please stop acting innocent. Citing links and websites, fighting with strangers about frivolous facts to “Be Right” does not make you anything but a quarter back activist.

Georgia voting law

Sash- You have no idea what I do in my personal time. My husband and myself were VERY involved in the Black Lives Matter movement over the summer. We took our children to peaceful protests near our home. We educate our children about white supremacy and how this country is rooted in it. I donate money, volunteer, do anything I can to help. My privilege as a white person in this country is never lost on me.
This country has systems in place that purposely suppress people of color, women, and immigrants. I sometimes am embarrassed to be Caucasian when I see how some of us act. Voter suppression is one of those systems.
I can promise you, I am not woke. I have been an activist for racial and gender equality long before 2020. I will die making sure my children never see your children as anything but equal. My son turns 10 in a few weeks and is very interested in becoming involved. We are looking for ways he can get involved at an age appropriate level. We are researching programs together but if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Not being snarky, I genuinely would love suggestions on a reputable place lol.
Anyway, that's my deal. I really don't care what strangers on the internet think of me, but in general, I want you to know there are white people out there who genuinely care and are not fighting for you, they are fighting with you.

Alveda King is also against a woman's right to choose, same sex marriage, and transgender rights.

So she can’t be right about voter ID and suppression because of other issues she might be against?

Let’s pull the angry black woman card or the aggressive minority card. How come I’m always called angry or aggressive on here? Did you ever stop to think what a problem that is when you posters say that?

Research that, educate yourself on that phenomenon. You are ignorant and stubborn, you refuse to see it or change.

Eta: please point out where I posted misinformation? Stop just making sweeping accusations - again!

Gtfo of here with white people fighting with me. Omg stop! My husband is white and so is my son. Shut up. My point isn’t a “ I think white people are the problem”. It’s about people on this site regardless of their race not knowing what they are talking about and refusing to listen to the other side.

Because your posts read as angry and pi$$ed off especially when someone challenges or disagrees with you. I know nothing about you IRL and don't care what race, ethnicity, religion, etc you are, my observation and I guess that of others is that you come across as very hostile and angry in many of your posts.

When have you EVER listened to the other side? You keep preaching that but I've yet to see you take your own advice and have a rational back and forth with anyone. You're ALWAYS on the attack especially when anyone disagrees with you.

Because your posts read as angry and pi$$ed off especially when someone challenges or disagrees with you. I know nothing about you IRL and don't care what race, ethnicity, religion, etc you are, my observation and I guess that of others is that you come across as very hostile and angry in many of your posts.

Funny as people will agree with me or post the along the same lines and I’m the one that is always “angry”. And I do not get upset when people disagree with me. I have actually corrected myself, apologized or even agree with others on this site. I don’t think I have ever seen that from you. You really project your own BS on to others.

You are the angriest and nastiest person on this site who can not take it when someone doesn’t agree with you. It literally sends you off the rails, more so than anyone on this site, but I am the angry one who can’t agree with anyone.

Read this long ass thread where I posted only a few times, never called anyone out their name nor made any derogatory comments. But yet out of all these responses and posters, I am the angry one? That’s a problem but you and everyone one else on your side will refuse to open their eyes and see it.

Gtfo of here with white people fighting with me. Omg stop! My husband is white and so is my son. Shut up. My point isn’t a “ I think white people are the problem”. It’s about people on this site regardless of their race not knowing what they are talking about and refusing to listen to the other side.

When have you EVER listened to the other side? You keep preaching that but I've yet to see you take your own advice and have a rational back and forth with anyone. You're ALWAYS on the attack especially when anyone disagrees with you.

You say it, so it must be true.

Georgia voting law

Ok, I tried to be nice. Whatever. I ask you for help away my son might be able to get involved because you specifically said that people don't want to get involved and they just want to talk.
I also never said that you claim white people are the problem I myself said I think white people are the problem.

Hofstra, JennP, NaturalMama, and others said it best. The law is Jim Crow, plain and simple. It is shameful.

Funny how Alveda King was just on the news talking about voter ID and suppression and she said exactly what has been said here by myself and others.

Alveda King is also against a woman's right to choose, same sex marriage, and transgender rights.

So she can’t be right about voter ID and suppression because of other issues she might be against?

No. Sorry someone who is against basic human rights for certain groups of people has no credibility whatsoever.

I will be fully transparent and admit that I glazed over the section about your son because your last line hit a nerve with me and actually did get me angry. Because my comment about being woke isn’t about being white or race. You are right I don’t know what people do in their spare time but I can bet if we did real analysis of this the posters on here the majority aren’t actively participating like you.

As for your son, I really feel it’s about incorporating diversity into their lives, understanding and building relationships outside of their bubble. And I am going through the same thing with my son. He has been so privileged, that I realized at 12 he doesn’t get it. The same for my nieces or nephews, so this isn’t only a white thing tbh.

Volunteer work, being a part of a youth center in other communities, learning how to build those relationships and understand the different lives of others. I think reading a book, looking at the news and attending marches are great but idk if it’s long lasting. I don’t want my son to do something and just go home, and think, check I did my deed for the day.

I am none of those things and literally have ZERO issue with anyone disagreeing with me. That is some weird narrative you have created in your head about me because I don't always see eye to eye with you.

You also need to stop confusing my issues with psychotic VB with "everyone" on the board. I don't get into with anyone unless YOU choose to jump in when I am arguing with VB. That's a fact. Your constant rhetoric about me being nasty and angry is so misguided and WRONG on every level. But whatever, I am not going to argue with you because I don't really care enough to change your mind. You're just some name on a screen, I certainly don't waste my time worrying about what a bunch of screennames think about me. Maybe you need to lighten up and not take these boards so seriously. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about a lot of people on here and I guess that is why you're so combative. I don't know, I don't care enough to lose sleep over it.

I am not going to waste a beautiful day arguing with you, it's an unproductive waste of time and we'll just end up going in circles. Have a great day!

I also think IDs are essential and find it hard to believe that on LI where you have to pretty much drive everywhere, where the Island is predominantly wealthy, that no one needs their IDs for pickup orders.

I didn’t not argue or disagree with anything that had to do with the law that was past, I did not debate about voter suppression, I did not fight or call anyone name. Thank you. I appreciate the response and I apologize for my last line. I do know this is not only white children who are privileged, that it's a much bigger issue. All of us are far from perfect but I do try. Luckily my children's school is very diverse, although my immediate neighborhood is not and sometimes I regret moving my children out of Queens. But, that's a whole other topic for a whole other day lol. Anyway, thanks again for the clarification and again, I apologize.

Do you think it would be worth it to move to a community that is more diverse? The market in the suburbs is pretty hot now so there would probably be no issue selling your home. I will not include my personal experience since that is not allowed anymore.

Your posts are riddled with ignorance, anger and misinformation and you go out of your way to be as contentious and sarcastic as possible with everyone. Your little ranting routines are getting old. Believe whatever you need to about people and the world, more power to you. Chat Icon

Maybe you need to lighten up and not take these boards o seriously. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about a lot of people on here and I guess that is why you're so combative. I don't know, I don't care enough to lose sleep over it.

I am not going to waste a beautiful day arguing with you, it's unproductive waste of time and we'll just end up going in circles.

You know ways hysterical I only disagreed with the fact that someone said people don’t have ID because the line at the DMV is too long. That is where my original comment came from and why I posted on here. That line sounded like the one legged diabetic eating a banana at the supermarket. It was lame.

Until going back and forth with you, I literally had about 3 responses to this whole thread. So I am not sure where you are coming from and why you are coming so hard.

But again, angry minority here. [/QUOTE

Sash totally agree with you, regarding the persona Hofstra presents. I guess we are both wrong then.

Anyone and everyone who disagrees gets attacked it looks like. No one is safe if you don’t agree and kiss ass.
